Is this the first car in history that has been made to look WORSE with the application of the Gulf livery?

As previously stated, I think some Gulf liveried cars look great, unfortunately this isn’t one of them!

You don’t associate McLaren with this colour scheme. Even when the F1 was sponsored by Gulf it was a much darker metallic blue. This looks dreadful.
It may be an iconic colour scheme, but for JWA cars, not McLaren!

Saw an Elva on the road near Dorking last weekend- didn’t have a clue what it was to start with, in fact thought it was a Ferrari. Not sure the car has the road presence that the price tag demands, regardless of the paint scheme...

Evla or Elva. Which is it?
It's "Elva". The "Evla" AKA "La EV" will be along in a few months, in the livery of an electricity generation company that rhymes with Øfsted, and will also look like a HotWheels model, too.

I like MacLaren the brand even tho they get a lot of hate, but that just looks cheap, Evla just does not look anywhere near as special as a SP1/2 Monza

I have to say, hand on heart, I’d be really embarrassed to be seen in that. But I guess I’m not their target market.
The beauty of these cars is they will live in temperature and humidity controlled garages and will never be driven so nobody will recognise you.
Fixed that for you.

I could be batty but I think it would look better in black with red pinstripe highlights.

What killed this car off for me was back when it was launched, it had a what looked like a small TV screen rise out of the bed bonnet to deflect the air so you wouldnt need a windscreen. While a fun idea, it was imo also a hideously fugly one that ruined the front of the car. A lil low screen at the front would have looked great.

Interestingly while i was on Mclarens site recently i looked at this car and while going through several pages of sales/info i couldnt find one picture of the "TV" raised out of the bonnet. Maybe they ditched the idea.

Also imo the speed humps look too wide, tall & fat from the front, i know other cars do this but i think they look awfull too. Now im not the biggest Ferrari fan, but imo the Monza SP2 blows this out the water. Apart from that tacky lil plastic? panel full of cheap looking buttons on the inside of what is otherwise a lovely cockpit. But just look at these beautifull speedhumps! The whole cars a beauty!

Each to their own though, im sure the owners will love them, the graphite grey colour looks best on this Mclaren i think, maybe black. thumbup

FAO Mclaren marketing

I see a Gulf car and I want it painted black
No colours any more I want them to turn black

And the seats?

Paint them black and delete this picture from the internet

Yowzers that is awful.

And what's the obsession with Gulf Oil livery? I know the historical significance but why do people slap this colour scheme and branding onto new stuff?

No historical significance at all for McLaren; it was only used in period by the JWA Gulf team on their Porsches, Fords and Mirages.
