Seen the various personalised plate forums...... Here is one for those buying into a personalised plate at the entry/lower end of the market, say for less than a grand! I'll start with these two! (Cost £250 from DVLA in 2004)

The plate's worth 25% of the car, I'll never get my head around vanity plates...

I bought a BMW last December that came with the plate "M6 KYT" and given the deal I got the plate was pretty much free!

I just need to find the right M6 owner now. laugh

This was mine back in the day, paid £250. Sold it for £800 a few years later.

The value of the car has no relevance as the plate has its own independent value.

Think of it instead like a set of wheels that fit any car, and appeciate in value as time goes on.
The owner has a choice to fit them to every car he purchases in turn, or leave them in their box.
They never get damaged, but he can occasionally deface them to try and make them look like some other more expensive wheels (but everyone can see that they are not).

One day the owner will sell them at a huge profit, whether he has used them or not..

I'm not usually one for plates that match the car as prefer ones personal to the owner but I couldn't resist this one for my Twingo 133, £250 seemed a good deal...

Same price for the one on my S class as well.

I hadn't realised they appreciated, makes more sense now! Cheers.

I had my eye on V7ECY for my Civic VTi-S for ages, kept umming and ahhing over getting it as I had other priorities. Got a bit of spare cash now, low and behold, it's gone. Checked it on my app and low and behold, it's on a Civic Type-R now hehe

This was free.

Obviously my name is Charles and I was born on the 9th of October

As was this on my wife's car.

Her name is something beginning with C and she was born on the 36th of September.

Despite the above not being in the slightest bit accurate I quite like the short plates. Makes life easier remembering them smile

£250 from DVLA - A little unoriginal, but those who know get it :P

I know there are a few others with the same idea; I stepped out of my office one day to find FK08 HOT parked outside; Thought I was having a stroke :P

My late father bought a new car in 1962 and it came with 1815 MG registration. He was forever being approached by shifty characters looking to buy his "really nice car". It was a Triumph Herald 1200 - about as unremarkable as possible!

I bought a SAAB 9-5 Aero estate a few years back. When i viewed it the owner (Euan) metioned a private plate but i didn't really listen to him and assumed he was taking it off the car. When i picked it up it still had it on it and he said that he didn't have another car to transfer it to so i could have it.

UEN920

Never did ask him what the 920 stood for. Now on retention...........

Simple ... nothing fancy smile DVLA direct purchases @£250 each, should have gone for S5 GWG when I had the chance but I guess I'd have had to buy another car to put it on rofl

DVLA have got one I keep thinking about but can't decide if I like it or not and more importantly what it would look like on the car.

It's effectively the same as MR59OCK, where I would have it as MR 59OCK which is my name, obviously it's not Spock but does start with SP so I would use the 59 As an SP if that makes sense.

Cool or tragic? I can't decide.

It's only £499 from DVLA, whereas I can get something like w666kms (my initials) for £299.

Avoid mis-spacing as IMHO that's always tragic.

I retained the plate off my old e36. R34 LHO (real ho). Was tempted to put it on the missus's car. Hardly a great plate but it only cost £80 to put it on retention.
