I guess the Audi driver thought he had one of these.

What kind of tank is that? Glorious looking thing.
Leopard 2.
Looks more like a MK1 I think.
I think it's a 2 as well, the turret looks more mk2 than mk1

I wonder how difficult it could be for the manufacturers to develop a system whereby an impact would cut the throttle out automatically via sensors as a safety feature.
Even if the car automatically hit the brakes on impact momentum would still be there, I doubt the outcome would be any different.

They do. Even my 1990s Caterham has an inertia switch which cuts the engine on impact. But obviously more for the safety of the vehicle and its occupants rather than the McLaren scenario.

It was the young driver in the Audi who was trapped, according to the latest stories.

No action being taken by the police, and the article cites civil action for the insurance.

Surely the growth of EVs is going to make this a more regular occurrence as Doris and Neville go out in their little runabout that does 0 - collision in 3.2 seconds
Yeah, I have pondered that possibility, 2 tonnes, four wheels drive and all that torque.

Could be a bad combination with older folk who are coming to the end of their driving career (happens to us all !) and they are struggling, you know when you hear that screaming engine and someone moving off slipping the clutch, an EV wont just bog and stall or kangaroo it will take a out a shop or two, saw it happen with a Jag as a kid, she wasnt that old, just a bit of a Gin enthusiast.

Typical Q8 type buyer. Probably mistook the McLaren for a shoe and attempted to drive over the top while chatting to another orange faced WAG.
It's a Q5

Going to be a hefty old insurance claim for the Audi driver. Their insurance company are going to be well chuffed about that.

Going by the exhaust pipe of the Audi I'm not sure a runaway EV was the cause of this crash.

Going a bit off topic it's strange (not) that said exhaust pipe peters out under the boot area and doesn't go anywhere near the two "exhaust ports" in the rear bumper. A sheep in wolf's clothing?

The pipe looks like it’s going nowhere, but is actually just feeding the silencer that goes across the back of car.. quite a deceptive picture though..

And it’s “VW in a posh frock” these days..

Quite right Austria operates Leopard 2A4s.

Like most modern tanks they are fairly spectacular to watch - seeing a Dutch Leo powerslide around the arena at speed (think it was a 2A6) at Tankfest a couple of years ago is a vivid memory in a three Leo formation accompanied by the Tank Museum’s ex-Canadian examples, matched by a similar demo by a Challenger 2 following it. Tanks have moved on a lot from the slow lumbering machines of the past.

The thread title made it seem like a deliberate act of vandalism had taken place and not just a case of a hapless driver in a car possibly too big for them.

Consider me underwhelmed.

I suppose this is the result of the combo of a high riding SUV vs a low nosed sports car... if the collision had been between two 'ordinary' cars I suspect the damage would have been little more than two lightly pranged front bumpers.

True, but how many end up on their side with the driver stuck inside?
