Dear Average driver,
I am writing to politely request that when you aren't currently overtaking, that you kindly move left, to make
efficient use of the available road.
I recognise the truck on the horizon will eventually be overtaken given your 2-3mph closing speed, but if everyone follows your example there will be ample space to pull out when the need arises.
As it stands, the congested middle lane and outside lane are reducing traffic flow and ultimately increasing frustration for you and your fellow road users.

Sincere apologies old chum. Had you flashed your lights a bit more or got within a few cm of my rear end, I might have seen you and understood your intention.
Please make more effort in future to close in on my position at an even higher speed, lights a blazing of course, as I'm sure I should notice you during one of my 5 minute interval mirror checks. A few hand gestures, huffs, puffs and tuts would also improve your success at communicating your feelings.
Also, when undertaking me after all else has failed, be sure to try to educate me and make me a better driver by emphasizing your road movements as you plough on through the traffic 'making progress' ahead of me. I'm always disappointed when I finish a journey with the same road knowledge as when I started as I truly value the input of drivers like yourself and welcome the distance learning administered by the driving elite.
Again, super sorry for holding you up. Try some relaxation techniques next time, should you feel agitated when out and about. It might help.

They are dozy inattentive drivers who at best have no concept that there are cars behind them and at worst have decided to police the roads. There is no case in which they are not tossbags.
In any case I just undertake them when I can do it with a clear lane between us and carry on with my journey. Sometimes they'll pull over when I do that, but only ever to hog L2 and never all the way to L1.
TO go back to the OPs point I never, ever had to undertake people to make progress until a few years ago.
And to go back to the OP's point, it's not called undertaking. That's only for dead people.
It's called overtaking on the left.
HC rule 268:

"Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake."
It's called overtaking on the left.

Dear Prick,undertaker,set off earlier,relax,your not the road warrior,your journeys not that important,take the bus instead,your obviously not suited to modern roads and driving standards,pick any answer,or like the tools who think flashing lights,at cars doing slightly above the speed limit,to get them to pull over along the A40/406,prepare to spend a fair amount of time looking at my rear bumper,to me....your journey doesn't matter,regards

Each time you move out to overtake an HGV you force your way into a gap in one or more lanes further out, forcing those behind to drop back a bit if they want to maintain the following distance they are comfortable with, which creates a concertina behind.
