Ares S1 Project gets Spyder variant

Missed one of the 24 S1 Coupes? Best get your name down for one of 24 Spyders!

It seems like barely a week passes at the moment without news of another extremely limited run, extremely impractical supercar speedster. Which is fine by us, because cars with more than 700hp and no roof are an awful lot more interesting than plug-in SUVs. Welcome to the latest, the Ares S1 Project Spyder.

The Ares conforms to many of the criteria laid out by similar cars that we've seen over the past couple of years. Very few will be made (just 24, like the Project coupe), it will be enormously powerful (715hp) and the entire windscreen and roof arrangement has been swapped for a couple of wind deflectors that look like PPE as much as anything fit for a car. Ares claims that they work very well for redirecting air, though, creating "a virtual canopy and a calm yet unfiltered driving experience." We'll have to take their word on that for now. You'd assume that "calm" is a relative term when it comes to a supercar with a 9,000rpm V8 aboard...

Though only renders for the moment, this Ares Spyder shows that even a car as dramatic as the S1 Project is only made to look more exhilarating without a roof. The rear arch seems almost level with those wind deflectors, and the wheel size as a proportion of overall vehicle height is preposterously brilliant.

Besides the obvious changes, the Spyder is as you were for the Coupe; that means an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, carbon bodywork, and an interior dominated by a central stack, a feature that now serves as an even more dramatic line between two exposed passengers. Dany Bahar has said of his latest creation that a Spyder was always part of the Project S1 plan, and that the car "is a true tribute to the pleasure of sport driving". If the looks and the spec of the S1 Project Spyder are anything to go by, that's going to be a very hard claim to refute. More details when we have them.

Despite the fact that it should probably be called the Pagatti McLotus, that styling is utterly spot on. Beautiful car.

Interior looks familiar. Wiff of Carrera GT but it's not quite it

Now that looks good. Nearly as good looking as the SP2, and better than the Elva

Isn't that a TTRS binnacle?

Or a V60 Polstar. Anyway it looks familiar.

Looks a very nice curvy shape, albeit with some somewhat fussy details. I imagine that the vents in the tops of the wheel arches are functional though they are not pretty, I think I would rather see them in body colour. I like the copper/brown with the silver, a bit unusual but works quite well.

If PH is intending to inform its audience about cars, I cannot understand why they would continue to omit the most fundamental piece of information about the Ares S1, namely that it's a reskin of the Corvette C8.

This was reported by Top Gear last month, and linked in the conversation of the last PH article

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/first-look/ares-s...
TopGear said:
while the extreme cab-forward stance, bulging carbon bodywork and unique interior is entirely the work of Ares’ in-house design team, the aluminium chassis, V8 engine, dual-clutch gearbox and electronic architecture are all from the new mid-engined C8 Corvette.
I cannot understand why PH could consider this not worth mentioning, nor can I find a motivation for deliberately omitting it, nor can I imagine that they are genuinely unaware of this fact. Very strange.

There's nothing wrong with reskinning a C8, I think it's a great idea and it puts this fab-looking car one step closer to reality than many other press-release renderings we see. But I can't see it as anything other than a fundamental to any discussion of the project.

I think Porsche could be justified in raising an eyebrow with regards the interior and the exhaust exits, but otherwise it looks great. Something about a car that's only JUST higher than the wheels it's on, makes the child in me start to giggle.

It is like a mash up of a Porsche and Pagani on the outside, with Porsche Bentley on the inside.
But having said that, other than the diamond quilting which I'm not a fan of, it looks incredibly well resolved without a roof! Thumbs up from me.

So have they actually sold the 24 S1 Coupes then? Have they actually built any? Or is this another render job that never actually happens like the Ares Project Pony?

As previously posted about the one with the roof;

.... However, for $500k I would be feeling a bit short-changed for what is essentially a base model Corvette (which is a $75k car). By all accounts the Z06 or ZR1 or whatever will have a 5.something litre twin turbo flat plane V8 - so will have no trouble seeing off your half a million dollar car for about a quarter of the price. But I get it, everyone is different and a fair number of people have the wherewithal to spunk half a million up the wall on something like this (if it ever becomes reality). Different strokes for different folks.

ps .... I think I'd have rendered some bigger, carbon ceramic brakes.
Like this one, prefer the one with the roof but same comments apply. I see they did actually render some bigger brakes this time though thumbup

Vaporware at is best.

The „design“ of the coupe was „heavily based“ on a 5 year old student project, which was sponsored by Porsche.

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/porsche-electri...

Now that they chopped off the roof you might even be able to see out of it. If it was ever to be built.

This whole thing is reeking and pistonheads looks like not havin a clue...or giving a damn.
The money is in the clicks.

Wasn't aware of that. To say the design is "similar" is an understatement. Stunning design.

a) I wonder what happened to the student...
b) I wonder how many of the coupes actually came to fruition?

BTW your link didn't work - hopefully this does..
