Maybe retail but not trade - 14 months old, 20k miles , was offered £3k under list last week, perhaps this week that gap may be closer to £6k.
Seems quiet reasonable for a £100k high mileage saloon.
Agree - under normal times you would expect 25% (£20k) hit in the first year - (4 door saloon).

It’s moreover the £3k shift in a couple of weeks.

Is the key question.
Unfortunately it will only keep going one way. Cost of living problems will start to bite autumn / winter when people start using more energy and the next fixed rate cap is increased.

Assuming for a moment that the general value of cars will take a huge nosedive over the next year or two, can anyone offer a suggestion on the a type of car which will give the least possible hit in value?
I was assuming something like a Dacia Sandero at 13k could make a safe bet, until I realised they were only about 8k not too long ago.

I'm guessing just get a 2k shed for a little while?

If you're worried about the values crashing, then you answered your own question. Get a manual petrol Japanese car for circa £2k smile

Just as I thought things were slowing up and I'd have problems shifting my 335d with over 250 up for sale on AT with similar spec/miles, absolutely not. From within seconds of the ad going live my phone never stopped ringing. Thought I'd priced it sensibly compared to retail but it was like a sharkfest with callers pleading with me to sell it to them over the phone for well over asking price. Could have sold it 10 times over. I think the clincher was it was a BMW Individual colour that really suited it and is extremely rare on the model. Quite happy with what I got for it. Cost me a grand to put 22k miles on it in 2 years.

I've never owned a Japanese car before....do you know of a small/medium sized one which will also be decent for longer motorway journeys? (cruise control if at all possible).

Good idea - I imagine the gains of covid need to be taken back for a normal depreciation curve to emerge again. At 2k not much to lose

A new Dacia Sandero is 13000 in the UK, but only 8300 in Germany. (more Brexit winning I suppose).

Perhaps it's time to go back to importing like we did in the 00's.

Has anyone experience of doing this recently and knows what extra red tape is involved?

Well I'm please to say that all vehicle delays must surely be over as I'm getting my new company car next week. I've never had one so long laugh

Won't it be LHD ? That aside, is it the same spec for both markets ?

Have you checked the import duty yet ?

You can order RHD - the spec looks the same AFAIK.
Yes, with VAT still comes out well under 10k.
I guess I need to do some research..the price in the UK is ridiculous by all accounts.

€15,550 in Ireland, and they're still in the EU. How does that work ?

Cheaper in the UK at £12,600

I blame Brexit and Putin.

I can't really figure out the huge price disparity..but will be certainly be looking into it. Around 8k for a new Sandero would do nicely.

I assume the EU competition rules don't apply to export to the UK so they can just make the RHD uplift exorbitant (it was capped at 5% in 2001 from memory).

What's the current thoughts around the market from the last few weeks? Seems it's fairly stable - as in not dropping again but not going up, also seems less cars coming to the market perhaps?

I would agree with that.
