I don't normally comment on these threads, but I saw this and had to say something. Why not? Obviously not during lockdown/pandemic but in "normal" times, why wouldn't you? I drove for around 7 hours just to see/drive around Swindon's Magic Roundabout, so driving hundreds of miles for a kebab isn't out of my realm.
I know I'm not "normal" in terms of the general public but I'm sure I'm not out of the ordinary on this forum.
I wouldn’t drive over 300 miles for a kebab, unless it was part of a planned overnight stay.
Indeed. If you drove 300 miles for a kebab, and didn't stay the night, it would be stone cold by the time you got it home, and re heated kebabs never really taste right. smile
Driving 300 miles for a kebab, one for the Match.com thread surely??

It was Wills2 who stated that no one drives 300 miles for a kebab. I wouldn't.

I want to say the other guy but in the eyes of the law it’s probably me:

Waiting to turn right out of a junction; road to the left is clear but a steady line of cars coming from the right. A gap appears and the next car is indicating left and appearing to slow down so I make a calculated risk (there are no other junctions or driveways they could be turning into) and pull out. Only the guy, despite indicating, has no intention of turning left and instead gives me a blast of the horn and the beans.

Luckily I’m fast enough to get onto my side and out of his way as I check him out in my rearview continuing straight on with an orange flashing light on. Kicking myself coz I know how that would have gone if we had made contact.

Yep, never trust an indicator. There’s a junction near me just after a large roundabout, people coming off the roundabout leave their left indicator on. People out the side road think they’re turning and pull out. I’ve seen a number of close calls and even a crash there.

In his post though the other car “appears to slow down”, if it’s busy and somebody appears committed to turning, I do carefully come out. I do however wait until they’ve slowed right down, also have to be careful of hazard perception experts overtaking the turning car so they can save 0.00001 seconds.

This is usually my mantra too but was getting an itchy foot due to how long the line of traffic coming from the right was. C’est le vie.

Agreed. I often get funny looks - nothing new there - from a left turn indicator waiting for them to actually do a left turn while I'm waiting to turn right at a junction.

If you're all going to try and get the high ground on this one, you may find it easier to use a MEWP.

I once cycled 160 miles (round trip) for fish and chips at the seaside. It made sense to me because everyone knows seaside fish and chips just tastes better than the stuff from the chippie half a mile from home...

If an approaching car has its indicator going when you `first' see it, it may be that the driver has not cancelled it, or it has not self cancelled, from the drivers last turn / change of direction.
In this case I tend to wait before pulling out, until the vehicle has either turned in, (or in the case of a knob) has gone past me, with the indicator still flashing.
If when waiting to pull out I see an approaching car `start' to signal, it means that the driver knows what he is doing, and is giving other drivers the chance to pull out safely. People who drive, and don't give signals are the motoring equivalent of someone who cannot walk, and chew gum at the same time.

IIRC, that move was a 'Cash for Crash' favourite. He's just indicated left. he must be turning left, I'll move out now...Bang. (Or something like that).drivinggrumpy

I almost went down that route but didn’t think it was PH suitable.
