smile SJ beat me to it! (I am now trying to remember from where I heard that)

Remembered: Stephen Fry in QI often said that when suitably impressed

Was convinced I wanted to ditch the mesh grill for an original slated one.

Now I’ve done it - not so sure. Thoughts?

If I may be so bold with a couple of suggestions.

1) I think it needs "R A N G E R O V E R" lettering on the leading edge of the bonnet to complete the look of the front end. In my opinion, the lettering is a big part of the car's imposing look, and appears a little anonymous without it.

2) Not something for now, but when the tyres need replacing, consider sticking a set of period-correct 20" Vogue wheels on, to replace the HSE-spec items your L322 currently wears (maybe shoe the HSE wheels up with full winters, and bung them in the shed, just in case).

This one's a 2005-on facelift model, but the wheels and bonnet lettering are the same.

Just my opinion chap - congrats on the car, it looks lovely. thumbup
Completely agree - the car had an aftermarket bonnet badge which I removed as it was squint and looked naff. Unfortunately I can't find an OEM replacement for a decent price at the minute.

Likewise with the wheels, would love a set but again would need to be a decent used set at the right money, and the car rides so well on the HSE spec wheels.

The main reason I bought the car is that it has a spring conversion (air suspension delete), so I'm cautious about what it'll feel like on skinnier rubber...

I know we're having all the E39's at the moment. But for a bit of a change, here's a....E34!

Looks decent and I bet those seats are nice and comfortable.

I'm not commenting on the price, other than to say it's in thread budget. And it's more acceptable priced than stely engined Granada's.

I can vouch for the seats - in part helped by the proper captain's chair armrests. Sometimes on a longer trip, if I'm on my own, I like to lounge out on the passenger's armrest, whilst my 520i buzzes away because it's so low geared...

This brings back good memories for me. Back in the day (mid '90s at a guess), I had 1989 E34 525i SE in JRG (sorry, Champagne), with velour seats and Spanish gears. What drew me to that particular car was the fact it had the 24v engine, which I coveted. I even ignored the fact it wasn't an automatic (I really don't like driving manual barges).

Amusingly, I paid the same back then as the price of the car above.

Does thread dislike the RRS because they're a pig to work on, or because they all look like this?

In isolation I quite like them, but the owners mean I wouldn't drive one in public even if it was free.

As we've seen recently in the thread an L322 Range Rover can be a thing of class. However a Mk1 (L320?) Range Rover Sport will always look chavvy, and will forever have that image.

Have a look on eBay.
There’s a £2200 project S/C L322.

I’m brave, but that’d just be stupid!

Yes, what he said. Not a lot wrong with the RRS, per se, but the associations that come with ownership are just too much to bear.

If one were to pick on the car itself, criticisms could be levelled at the fact a vehicle badged "Sport" is based on the least sporty car of all time, the Land Rover Discovery. Also, the interior is a bit, well, crap, particularly when compared to the FFRR.

The Granada sold quickly and will likely be a decent investment filled with retro charm and uncomplicated mechanicals. The Eos will make you miserable and lonely and then it will break.

Its only redeeming feature is the reminder that people are fickle and the stupid SUV/Faux SUV craze will pass and be resigned to history alongside these hateful CC stboxes.

If you're thinking about buying an EOS go and buy a Mk2 Volvo C70 instead. No leaks, no VAG chocolate engineering, usable back seats.

The E34 is a very nice car, very comfortable over long distances. In my final year of medical school, (after accidentally writing off my E36 328i saloon), bought an E34 520i, Calpyso Red for £500. Ran that for a year, driving regularly from Camden Town to Canterbury.

As with all SUVs, very colour/spec dependant but generally speaking Mk1 RRS is pretty council tbh.

I'd say the current RRS isn't too bad, but still a bit "owns a local plumbing company with about 8 vans running around".

Mk 1, nah, although there is a tiny part of me that would like to take a super-charged one and race prep it, a bit like someone from PH has done with a FFRR. The Range Racer, I think?

laugh Upon research type , looks like it's a Peugeot XD3 unit with 90hp and 148 lbs ft. Think Peugeot 505s had it in too in the 80s with and without a turbo. Christ, imagine it n/a lol.

That pug engine is a cracker for its day. I had one in this...

Went well , ran on vegoil, felt like it would pull a house down
That does look pretty cool, what is it? I guess the engines must have had some redeeming features. There is something to be said for a more 'mechanical' sounding diesel to be fair. Probably fairly reliable I'd imagine?

When I was getting my X5 I had a look and a go in one, and I was tempted. But they image thing was a problem.
Then a grade A tt of an estate agent came round to value my house and that sealed the deal.

And yes I'm aware an X5 probably has a similar image but it was better in every single way....apart from arguably looks.
