By which I mean... I hope rejn really does see £8k-plus for his W124, because compared to some of the ste that hobbled through the ring in Kings Lynn... it's clearly in another league.

Yes there was some right old dross. The one-owner Jensen Interceptor was my favourite; that seemed the real McCoy

Wow some crazy prices there.

I have always lusted after an E60 M5 and those wheels (an option I think, these were M6 or M5 touring wheels I think) make it look fantastic. Only experienced that V10 once, it's a corker.

They do shift

It's also ultra reliable too. In my head.

Blimey, even "my" lemon Z4 went for over estimate. I still like it. https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/sat-27th-s...

I watched a few of ACA's walk-around videos prior to auction, and a number of them had a common theme: different days, different locations around their site, but regardless... that e60 M5 was parked in the background with its bonnet up.

hehe

Alongside "it won't really depreciate, so it's cheaper to run than a new car" and "what do you mean that 14mpg is bad?"

Nice spec CDG. Looking forward to seeing the forecourt shots.

What's the BMW equivalent for one of these?

My old boss had one. I remember him driving at extreme speed to a client a hundred and a bit miles away, filling up on the way and the way back. So often we were sent out to collect him to ferry to another meeting as yet another thing had gone wrong. It was an utterly awesome car to drive though.

I actually spotted an E61 M5 'Touring' this evening... being driven slowly, perhaps engine preservation?

It was silver and disappointingly, it hasn't aged well from the rear and the quad exhausts look silly, with the bumper flares rather unbecoming, in comparison to the S211 of similar vintage. Biased, moi?.

Mrs McGee is also a another big proponent of the heated steering wheel... as well as heated seats... and the heating on max... all the bloody time.
It could be worse; MrsC is fond of getting into the car with full winter coat, gloves, hat & scarf on and then sticking the bloody aircon on 16 degrees "because she's too hot". In winter. When it's minus figures outside.

If I wanted a bit of a fun estate I'd pick the M5 every time I think. The AMG V8 is very special but that V10 is another level of special I think. I also prefer the styling of the M5 touring to the 211 estate smile each to their own!

I've been absent for all of this volume, and I hope I'm not too out-of-line with this post, but here goes...

I'm sure some of you will have seen my W124 is now up for sale at Collecting Cars now - they decided they didn't like my photos so I went via their professional photographer who, to be fair, has done a pretty good job on the photos up on their site. The auction went live earlier today.

Unfortunately I also found out as part of listing the car, that the car was recorded as a Cat C - back from 2014 before I bought it, and foolishly I never did an HPI check before buying the car. Schoolboy error.

Anyway, what that does mean is that I've agreed to sell the car at No Reserve on collecting cars. So if you're interested in a good usable W124 - in 300TE-24 form, with pretty much perfect (full £5k restoration in 2017) body work, then you may be able to grab a bargain!
Ouch, that sucks about the Cat C, but still a wonderful car.

I have seen this car several times and it is straight as a die.
A week to go and currently just above thread budget.

The car looks terrific - someone will get a cracker there.

It's a bidding battle between Yelowbird and joxer. Yelowbird's bids are 'absentee' so he's probably put in a higher figure than where it is now.

I'd love to own one too, but in my favouritest combo of Indianapolis Red with a Sepang Bronze interior.

Additionally, please consider that I have inflicted upon myself the running costs on a non-AMG V8 daily... an exponential bork-factor E61 V10 M5 would be devastatingly brutal. But yes, it'll probably possibly happen. Just not in boring silver.

I watched the M539 YouTube video of this m5 rod bearing and engine work last night. The amount of work he did on it is frankly frightening. £7k in parts alone

The A6 made less than £1800 which would've been hard to resist if I didn't have the 530.
