Are these engines as prone to leaks as the later 50i version?

A little bit of picture sleuthing reveals it to be HX04CFV beneath the dealer plates.MOT history suggests the valve stem seals went in 2016 and were attended to (advisories for smoke from exhaust and oil leak, nothing since). It's been picked up on oil leaks a few times before that but the last few years are a clean bill of health with regular usage.
I'd be a little concerned there's no photo with the engine running, a dashboard free of warning lights and the iDrive working as the computer unit is a common failure point on early E60s. More of an issue than you'd think as you lose everything - radio, parking sensors, anything else that uses the screen. But at worst that's a wasted trip if you get there to find none of the functions work.

That is fantastic! Out of interest, a 300TE-24v should have headlamp wipers, which is also listed in the spec. Were they a victim of whatever Cat C'd it?

I can mail the photos that the dealer took of it last week if you like? Car is in Luxembourg, but closer to the time I may be able to get it back to UK, or trailored home, or there's the option of a road-trip adventure home after a flight over to collect. I've done a handful of continental road-trips and it 's been unfailingly reliable, comfortable and swift. I've had it 3 years and have averaged 28 mpg overall. It's a fine old bus and I'd love to see it stay within thread. WBAC price went up to 1600 quid so I'd see 'street-value' being around the 2 mark, all things being equal. Always a deal to be done of course.
If I had any reservations about the car, I wouldn't want to see it go to a threadist, but it's been brilliant and I'll miss it.

There seem to be a few people repairing original units. The going rate appears to be quite hefty (around £450) although I imagine a quick phone call to a BMW dealership would make it feel like a relative bargain. The main difficulty is needing to get it out of the car, send it off and wait a few days for its return, although if you already have your Honda E or GR Yaris available as a barge tender that's less of an issue.Though I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy a car through collecting cars, I also saw this one while having a nosey at t'other one.
