Heated seats + xenons + folding mirrors + proper climate control + sunroof = hurrah.Basic screen + no nav = boo.
Also, leading bonnet edge/kidneys looks a bit 'gappy'
Definietly needs the bumper tweaking.
Bumper should be easy enough to sort...

Good bork factor though, I think.
Are these engines as prone to leaks as the later 50i version?

A little bit of picture sleuthing reveals it to be HX04CFV beneath the dealer plates.MOT history suggests the valve stem seals went in 2016 and were attended to (advisories for smoke from exhaust and oil leak, nothing since). It's been picked up on oil leaks a few times before that but the last few years are a clean bill of health with regular usage.
I'd be a little concerned there's no photo with the engine running, a dashboard free of warning lights and the iDrive working as the computer unit is a common failure point on early E60s. More of an issue than you'd think as you lose everything - radio, parking sensors, anything else that uses the screen. But at worst that's a wasted trip if you get there to find none of the functions work.

I wish advertisers would include reg numbers in their listings.

Useful! Thanks! MOT history suggests the valve stem seals went in 2016 and were attended to (advisories for smoke from exhaust and oil leak, nothing since). It's been picked up on oil leaks a few times before that but the last few years are a clean bill of health with regular usage.

Are the valve stem seals a 'once fixed forever sorted' issue or is it likely to be a recurring problem?
And are iDrives repairable?

Can you give us some details on the LS or point us toward a Reader's Cars thread perhaps, before I get into a bout of fisticuffs with Marcq
Apologies if done so, but could CdG respond (to save day dreaming about on a mid-summer LS, if it transpires it's not specced with carpet-lined door pockets)?rejn said:
Thanks for all the positive comments. It is an amazing car - I've loved it in the time I've had it. As we all know on here, you can't beat the quality of a W124, and I fell in love with the spec when I first saw it.
I hate selling cars at the best of times, but seeing this one leave will be difficult.

That is fantastic! Out of interest, a 300TE-24v should have headlamp wipers, which is also listed in the spec. Were they a victim of whatever Cat C'd it?

Apologies if done so, but could CdG respond (to save day dreaming about on a mid-summer LS, if it transpires it's not specced with carpet-lined door pockets)? No thread of its own but in sum: 2002 (52) LS 430. Ticked over 110,000 miles this very morning. Negatives: one front parking sensor u/s; slight cloudy delamination at bottom of front windows (after day one I never noticed it); small white-ish bloom on the bonnet, about 30 cm across; rear seats are heated but not cooled; soft close doesn't work on passenger door. Pluses: everything else works; new exhaust; fitted with continental headlights but have the UK ones in a box; fitted with decent premium cross-climates, with 4 summer tyres in my garage; nice aubergine colour, with perfect black leather and maple wood.
I can mail the photos that the dealer took of it last week if you like? Car is in Luxembourg, but closer to the time I may be able to get it back to UK, or trailored home, or there's the option of a road-trip adventure home after a flight over to collect. I've done a handful of continental road-trips and it 's been unfailingly reliable, comfortable and swift. I've had it 3 years and have averaged 28 mpg overall. It's a fine old bus and I'd love to see it stay within thread. WBAC price went up to 1600 quid so I'd see 'street-value' being around the 2 mark, all things being equal. Always a deal to be done of course.
If I had any reservations about the car, I wouldn't want to see it go to a threadist, but it's been brilliant and I'll miss it.

There seem to be a few people repairing original units. The going rate appears to be quite hefty (around £450) although I imagine a quick phone call to a BMW dealership would make it feel like a relative bargain. The main difficulty is needing to get it out of the car, send it off and wait a few days for its return, although if you already have your Honda E or GR Yaris available as a barge tender that's less of an issue.Though I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy a car through collecting cars, I also saw this one while having a nosey at t'other one.

LHD would suit me! I share the reservations about buying a car through this crowd though, and don't think I would ever do it. https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1971-mercedes-...

The last owner for just one year is a bit off-putting.

Sorry old chap...
Much obliged. I remain interested but have some further DD to undertaken (deeply unthread, I know) on 430, for some reason I thought it a 400. Air suspenders, correct?I’ll ping pong my email over for photos and will share with the group if you are happy for me to do so?

Side marker lights and square rear number plate make it look like a US market car with Euro lights and a km/h speedo though strange that it's a manual if that's the case. https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1971-mercedes-...

How about more pov 80's Stalag chic. Full expensive climate control option however. And yes, that's a 4 speed manual amongst the velour...

Fair point. It was more a grumble about it having the smaller screen. It's nice to see one in this colour combo rather than the usual silver over black.Bumper should be easy enough to sort...

Re valve stem seals, depends on miles I'd have thought. Probably best to budget for every 100k miles. Are the valve stem seals a 'once fixed forever sorted' issue or is it likely to be a recurring problem?
