I've been to the tip once in the last three years. Buying a car just for tip runs seems fabulously extravagant.
That is because you are no longer shackled to the yoke of domesticity. As one who is, I can tell you that tip trips are necessary and frequent and something to look forward to. A highlight of the weekend.

Yes, I just can't get enough of loading up the back of my lovely freshly cleaned Volvo, with many bags of detritus. Most of which usually stinks of rotting cabbage and musty mothballs - to gingerly drive half an hour to the tip so as not to deposit said contents all over the boot with enthusiastic cornering. Then the best bit is waiting 2 hours in a queue to get in, all the while choking on the rancid fumes from the back, to then have some officious b6st6rd stick his face in my business and tell me where to put each bag/box to meet their recycling targets.
Once you finally get home, you then spend the next 2 hours fumigating your car and cleaning it again.

I have been to the tip once in perhaps the last 5 years.

That said, I think my next cat will be an estate or SUV. Just nice for carting the bike around etc without the faff of roof bars.

I used to go to the tip in my Turbo R, always a source of amusement. I go in the Century now. I didn't feel the need to apologise to the old bruiser, but I do apologise to the Century for the ignominy, I must be a cultural letdown, a Gaijin custodian who takes it to the tip!

Same here. although I still own a tip run hack as it was another tenuous excuse to justify buying another car.

I also bought a dog car last year but am still yet to own a dog. I’m slowly running out of excuses.

My Renault Trafic van does the tip runs. There is nothing more liberating than slinging whatever old crap you like in the back of it, knowing that you can't make it look any more awful than it is already.

I feel rather manly taking a V8 on a tip run. The Turbo R tops it.

You'll be fine. You know the drill. One way ticket and forecourt shots. Deposit paid unseen. Reader's car thread bemoaning the outlay and gleefully appreciative of the engineering.

My local authority charges for bringing a van to the HWRC, even if it's your personal vehicle and you're an accountant or the like.

Shame about the slush box, but that looks minty fresh... and the first Cougar I think I've ever seen that isn't silver, always quite liked the look of these.

We get a dozen vouchers a year to take a van in, free at the moment, have to apply for it every year though.

Known as the Mercury Cougar in the states I believe. I quite like them, use to be loads about as they must have been reasonably priced for a coupe with a V6, although I’d take the 406 coupe over it smile

That's why a large people carrier comes in handy - my T5 Caravelle is the most useful family car we have ever owned and is allowed in the tip, though I tend to use my old Accord for tip runs to avoid getting the Caravelle too stink - my wife and the kids do a good job of grossing it out as it is.

I was looking for local thread barges for sale on Autotrader today, doesn't seem to be much out there.

I've been mulling a V6 350 Viano as a bus for the enlarged family, because Mercedes. Am I limiting my options for swift, robust, well appointed, petrol?
