I've just insured my S-Type for £500, and my old Golf shed is £380. If I hadn't discovered a really good guy at Keith Michaels, for both, this is still less than I was paying for an X-Type diesel.
Insurance kills me. I'm 31, good postcode and 9 years NCD!
I'm only a couple of years ahead of you but there is no way I'll pay over £300 PA for anything at all. I've just insured my S-Type for £500, and my old Golf shed is £380. If I hadn't discovered a really good guy at Keith Michaels, for both, this is still less than I was paying for an X-Type diesel.

I just won't buy whatever it is if i can't get it for less than that.
I was paying almost £1k to insure my 2.2 diesel auto X-Type Jag. I had the car for years and that was the best I could get the last time I renewed, so comparatively speaking I am overjoyed at insuring a 3.0 S-Type, and a shed Golf for less than that. I can't say enough good things about Keith Michaels for this, the broker I deal with beat the price of the comparison sites on the S-Type by over £300.

ETA: Can someone tell me why this 211 500 estate is so pricey? It looks in good fettle but 10 bags.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202010185...
The seller is greedy and is holding on to what he perceives is a rare and desirable vehicle.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202010185...
That steering wheel looks like a crap kids toy as well....
It's sad whenever you know the car you're referring to before even clicking the link
As Michael has said there's maybe an element of greed or speculation on them part of the seller. To me it looks a little plain compared to Stegels which looked much better.
I think it's in a tough place because for around that money you can get a fully loaded S500 limo for less money which will look so much more expensive.
You gotta really want that engine in an estate body to open negotiations and most people needing a car like that will go SUV.

I know that insurance can be a concern for those of you young enough to need to worry about such things, and of course it's your money, but to reject a car for an insurance bill of a few hundred quid seems as daft to me as rejecting a car due to a few hundred quid extra tax.

I've uncovered a company called "Arrows" in Japan who'll rebuild you a S124 or classic W463 G Wagen in rather hipster-tastic period looking colours with natty seat upholstery (not standard). They also de-wood the dash to underline the pov-spec ambiance! £27k for a finished 320TE or £13 grand to refurb your own car.

Those prices can't be right can they?https://www.e-arrows.jp/arrowsclassicline.html#1
They seem way too cheap for what I'm assuming is a full body job.

I think when you tot up how much per year one spends on fuel, servicing, MOT etc it is odd to rule out some cars if they cost a bit more. So if a lovely car cost £350 to insure you wouldn't do it, because it would cost you under a tank of fuel extra per year?

The tax thing, however... When I was looking at these 3.0 S-Types, any post 2006 cars were £600 a year to tax. Mine is £340 for exactly the same car. I rejected loads of newer ones that were very lovely because of that.
If there was a car I really, really wanted and the tax was £600, I would buy it regardless, but when you can get one that's less, it's a no brainer.
I do have some friends and colleagues who suck air through their teeth when it's anything more than £30 per annum.
I've lusted after one of those Arrows cars for a long time. I really like the style.
This is double thread budget but there may be some genuine interest in this thread. It is local to me although I don't know the vendor. It looks like a pretty sensible proposition from an enthusiastic owner. I know it is not Friday so I hope I will be forgiven.

That is superb, and identical to the example purchased brand new by the lady I was working for at the time that I lusted after so much. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to bemoan the price and 3 figure mileage, but personally I think that is great value. A very safe place to put your ten grand.

Do you know what is odd? Full whack road tax doesn't put me off... Haha.As the yanks would say - "Go figure!".
