Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 18]
Discussion
Yep - Bath - I decided to use the same spot where Collecting Cars photographed my old Gold W124 - it gives the sense of old money and suits the W124 quite nicely!
And yes, the bonnet not closing properly is annoying - especially since this afternoon a potential buyer came to view the car, we both wiggled with both halves of the bonnet mechanism and got it working again properly. That would have been 10 minutes well spent before taking the photos! Doh. Oh well.

Bath, Shirley?
Looks lovely but would be even lovelier with ginger.

And yes - gingers FTW every time. This car is '93 so I've always assumed it had non-ginger from new. If I was keeping it, I'd be tempted to change it.Looks lovely but would be even lovelier with ginger.

What a day you've had Arrrrr.
My detailer is a nice chap and when I went to see him recently in order to collect my newly re-trimmed, leather-fed, protected and wood (lacquer) -polished steering wheel, we were chatting about the red RS6 in his garage which he casually mentioned was his... he then proceeds to tell me that he keeps it at a friend's pad along with his yellow 575M with the Fiorano pack!
If your detailer has an RS6 and a 575, I'd suggest you're paying far too much for your detailing...My detailer is a nice chap and when I went to see him recently in order to collect my newly re-trimmed, leather-fed, protected and wood (lacquer) -polished steering wheel, we were chatting about the red RS6 in his garage which he casually mentioned was his... he then proceeds to tell me that he keeps it at a friend's pad along with his yellow 575M with the Fiorano pack!

Lovely BH weekend run down to the South Downs (ironically not far from whence she came). She’s running smoothly, despite being 36 years old the suspension puts anything else I’ve ever driven (including my LS400) to shame. Jaguar independent rear suspension takes the credit here - painful to sort (like air suspension) when it goes wrong but oh so perfect when it’s right.
Threadists
Would I be utterly mad to consider a X300 XJ6 for daily duties, covering about 15k miles per year?
I've read up a lot about them, albeit much of the information is rather dated. I prefer the interior of the later cars but would worry about the V8 foibles. A well sorted 300 is probably a safer proposition.
I'm no stranger to Jaguars, albeit mostly for the weekend rather than daily drivers. I've driven the length of France in an X300 3.2 once before, and remember it was rather lovely.

They're old so you can expect old car foibles, I'd certainly refresh the entire cooling system and any other bits of rubber that can kill the car (or you) if they fail. There aren't many 90s barges that are mechanically less likely to shaft you though.Would I be utterly mad to consider a X300 XJ6 for daily duties, covering about 15k miles per year?

Rust will be an issue, but if you get a solid one and stay on top of it that should be fine. Will it be out in the winter on salty roads, and live outside?

Yes. It'd be used year round and would live outside on my drive. My XKR lives under a good quality cover, but that'd be too much of a faff for a daily use year round.I was thinking of aiming to buy a solid good example around the £3-4k mark, get it waxoyled and take it to a Jag specialist for a good going over.
Or I could just get a new Eurobox with a warranty for no hassle!

Lovely motor and nice spot. I found the same with my £305 shagged out '40: the ride was sublime.r129sl said:

And not wanting to annoy anyone in case this has been answered before but did the 3 letter 3 number private plate discussed recently find a home?
PS - 4 different brands of tyre on that 300TD...!?

God bless this thread. All put together they're a treasure-trove of past sales and ads of vehicles as they make their way through people's hands. Just found a load of history in some of the older threads for a car I'm looking to purchase that I couldn't have found otherwise.
Welcome, and top lurking! You should post pics and deets of the car you've been sleuthing once you have done the forecourt shot. Starjet99 said:
