Wheels maketh the car.
Some cars have a wheel that no matter how much you try to break tradition with you'll be different, but never better. The integrale has it's Speedline Corse, the MX5 NC has the Enkei RPF1

Has there ever been a 3 spoke wheel design that wasn't fugly? I don't recall ever seeing one.
We've had them on here already!

Yes I know but I still think 3 spoke wheels look awful.

In terms of daily cars I have BMW 403M wheels on my F30 and Roulettes on my mini which are both lovely designs albeit I’m very unimpressed with the way the 403s have corroded!
I do like the 403s, mine are painted silver, but ferric grey is the way forward!

1970s Wolfrace. As used on the S1 Lotus Esprit, seen in the Bond movie "The Spy Who Loved Me".

At the same time the main competitor was Cobra Superslots (Supaslots?) which were quite similar-looking but were a bit flat for me and didn't have the contours and flowing lines of the Wolfrace.

I liked the "space age" design on the 1970s Lotus Elite. I'm guessing they were magnesium as they were extremely light. Alloys used to be known as "mag wheels", guessing that was short for magnesium. Steel is an alloy, so technically a steel wheel is an alloy wheel!

Surprised the CH-R from BBS didn't make it on yet.

Excellent choice ! hehe

Those were popular.
They made the CSL stand out above the usual M3.

E36 Contours get a + 1 from me

Alfa Teledials, so iconic and an Alfa trademark. The modern 5 hole ones on the Giulia are probably my favourite wheels at the moment.

The Gold Speedlines from the classic Impreza still do it for me.

I'm sure they're very nice and that but the thread is about classic alloy wheel designs. Not ones you have on your run of the mill E/F/G whatever which was the whole point of the thread...rolleyes

And THAT is what this thread is about. Not some 403 on an F30 (whatever that is)

Thank you 200Plus Club and a great picture too.

In fairness that's the Alfaholics car, but thankfully I have one that looks identical too :-)

I love Aero-covers on the E35 M5's, so subtle and just right. Especially as the 3.6 M5 has the narrow grille and IMHO is prettier.

They also look like a 518i on white walls.

I knew I’d seen those before somewhere, pretty much identical to MG Rover’s Hairpin design from 2001-05

Cobra Supaslots were the cheaper pretender to Wolfrace dish slot mags. In the late 70s (in the time of John Brown Wheels knocking these out), you could buy new Supaslots for around half to three-quarters of the price of Wolfrace wheels.

The instantly recognisable classic Impreza WRX wheel, most iconic in gold:

As mentioned several times the Minilites are up there as a classic style, or the Japanese equivalent RS Watanabe.
