Ok as per the above, please post

- the number £
- the car
- the work done*

  • the work which qualifies must be work done in the course of maintenance, fair wear and tear, and repair from normal usage - no repairs resultant from crash damage. No elective work. No bodywork unless it was NECESSARY. You can include transport and MOT failures and tests.
Me:

- £4286.59
- Porsche Carrera GT
- Minor Service, battery, starter, MOT, Transport.

I didn't pay it, but the Tuscan I am buying has a receipt for £9.5k which includes £8.4k on an engine rebuild.

Probably a complete suspension refresh (dampers, springs, ball joints, track rods, bushes, etc.) on my Elise, which cost around £1300 in parts (I fitted it all myself).

Definitely routine service work on a Tuscan smile

Worst I have a Porsche Carrera GT thread ever.

At my last service I had to pay £50 as my major service had come earlier than my service plan had anticipated. That was on a Vauxhall Astra. Oh and because Covid they also charged a £2.99 sanitation fee.

Most expensive was probably when it needed discs and pads all round, came to about £200.

An old 924 throws up that sort of bill? Where did you take it to? wink

Hopefully the rebuilt engine is somewhat more reliable ...

I once paid the thick end of £3k to have the gearbox rebuilt on my L322 Range Rover.

2 years later, the engine died.

Decided to cut my losses and sell it at that point! laugh

2 years ago my Defender threw up a £2,000 bill at an MOT.

I was expecting a fail, but not quite this bad.

Ok I will bite, how do you get to 4k on a service and starter motor change ? As far as I am aware you don't need to take the engine out to do it.

I don't think that is too bad at all for a car of that calibre. In fact I was expecting routine £10k services on a CGT.

My highlights are £4400 on a 7 year old Boxster S which seemed disproportionately high to the car value. That was at a Porsche indie too so 70% or less than what porsche would have charged. Service, new clutch was needed, brakes all round, air con compressor.

£8.6k on the Aston paid by previous owner thankfully. My worst bill in ownership was about £4k for a new radiator, new headlamp washer and a service at Bamford Rose.

Somewhere in my stack of car paperwork there's an invoice to a previous owner of my car where they added over £1k to the regular service cost to reseal the vent covers (common flaw with that engine and involves cleaning and using RTV) and replace the spark plugs... Years later I did the same for about £200 in parts and a few hours of effort.

There was also the fancy SBC braking system of that era where the pump has a built in life so is a consumable item... A snip at £1,500 fitted by an indy specialist (main dealer wanted £3k).

The SP6 cars were swings and roundabouts really. Back then when the finger followers were made of fudge you could buy a Tuscan for £15k (probably less with an already expired engine) and the £10k charge to get the engine sorted and with a warranty still made it a £25k performance bargain. These days with most having been rebuilt with reliable parts you just pay £25k off the bat.

My dealer insisted on changing a wiper blade as the one fitted wasn’t long enough. This is despite the fact they fitted it some years back. I failed to win this argument with the dealer. I’m still recovering from that kind of outrageous financial loss.

That's right, I am paying just a bit more than 25k, but from Str8Six so with a 12m parts and labour warranty, plus the car has had a full respray recently, so seems decent value. I haven't heard of rebuilt engines failing, but not sure how many have done massive miles on them!

Not mine but this pic accompanied the photos of Bentley Continental GT for sale on the ' Bay. The car was a bit rough and ready given the money thrown at it.... This was the only page show, not sure what the work was.

£4k for a Carrera GT service sounds like you got a bargain?

Just a check of the power steering fluid?.

Mine was either 6.99 to fill the washer fluid . It’s a litre and half tank so 6.99 for a mere litre of fluid is a piss take. Then again the service schedule charges a hundred quid to change the air filter. A filter which can be changed with 1 hand while you drink a brew from the other.

I think that sounds a decent deal from a reputable dealer. I also think these will carry on upwards which should offset the running costs.

I have been around the TVR circle years and haven't heard of many rebuilt engines failing. They may not have done many miles but its been donkeys years since the rebuilds were conducted so suggests they solved the issue. Funnily enough the only rebuilt engines I heard of going bang were those conducted by TVR themselves hehe

Usually less than £200 because i can unscrew an oil filter, change air/cabin filters and spray some grease on the door hinges myself.
