Boring to look at. Crap interior. No nobs or buttons, and no manual option. How much ?????
If I had to have a car in that sector, I think I'd rather have an A35 AMG.
Must say I agree, saw one parked up recently and it was one of the most bland iterations of a Golf I’ve ever seen!If I had to have a car in that sector, I think I'd rather have an A35 AMG.
Anyway it’ll certainly fly well under the radar, imo.

I'll be swapping from am A35 AMG to a Mk 8 R in June and hoping that the Mk 8 is better built than the A35. My wife nick named our current car 'Rattley' the A35 build quality is that bad.If I had to have a car in that sector, I think I'd rather have an A35 AMG.

I cancelled a circuit pack GR Yaris for an R, hope I made the right choice!
I justified it as the golf should be more practical, roomier and refined as most of my driving is on the motorway / city. Oh and it was cheaper too.....
Having drove a GR, nothing touches them for smiles per miles, felt amazing. I’ll get one....one day

It may be over 40k, but its the pcp/lease cost that matters. I doubt many go in and drop 40k of their 'hard earned' on the dealers table.
Quick search suggests leases on a 3+35 are just over £400, far higher than the cheap leases that saw so many r's make their way into our roads.
I bet its a great daily car however

"I just don't know where or when you'd actually use it. And nor do I think you'd ever drive a car like this so aggressively that it would actually slide on the public highway."
Surely the point of a drift mode is that you would be able to slide the back without reaching the car's absolute limits? Cheeky wiggle into the Tesco car park, dab of oppo off a tight roundabout. The fun stuff that you get with RWD.

Had a bog standard mk8 behind me on the m25 the other night, that light strip across the front bumper looks awful..
Yes, what exactly is that all about other than some sort of failed attempt at bling. Noticed a few full width tail lights as well recently, Audi I think? Smacks of 70’s Americana. How long before Halfords start selling self adhesive LED strips? To be stuck on every old untaxed, bald tyred heap in town?I’m not a Golf fan at all, but one of the key attributes of that model is its plain, understated appearance, a sort of less is more approach.

Read above. DTD is already offering 14.5% discount, which brings the price into the low 30's.
Any options still put you in the higher tax bracketI’d have the 19s as a dealer fit option, but the difficulty for me would be wanting DCC, black paint and heated seats as a minimum, which would put it £80 over the allowance.
The real problem is the higher tax bracket not moving. Cars are getting more expensive, but the threshold hasn’t moved since it was introduced. It was inevitable that a day would come where more ordinary cars would run into it.

I'm sure it's a good car but the front end on this shape Golf really is ugly isn't it.
How they got that signed off i don't know, it's got to be the worst looking car in its class.
Subjective of course but I'd reserve that for the M135i (and I'm a huge BMW fan). How they got that signed off i don't know, it's got to be the worst looking car in its class.

The OTR price of £39270 includes £870 of VED, so the list price is £38400, allowing you £1600 of options.

And that’s the problem, before it was 36k and with leather pro nav and others it came to 39k then discounted back to £34k which made it viable, I’d have the 19s as a dealer fit option, but the difficulty for me would be wanting DCC, black paint and heated seats as a minimum, which would put it £80 over the allowance.

Now it’s 39k when you add the options I want it’s like 50k then discounts back to 45 which IMO is far too much for a golf and the higher tax bracket just is stupid,
I agree the tax bracket is too low now and isn’t accounting for general inflation

No 3 door option. Completely off my wish list, having sold my 7.5r 3 door recently might have been tempted. Also, as many people have pointed out, the absence of tactile switches is a big off putter. My wifes Audi is also pretty poor with tiny, tiny knobs (yeah yeah..) that are difficult to see.
What is the matter with car makers these days? It's like some people you see walking about in weird clothes, clearly got up and dressed in the dark at a charity shop..
Tbf, none of these C-segment hot-hatches are 3 door anymore. What is the matter with car makers these days? It's like some people you see walking about in weird clothes, clearly got up and dressed in the dark at a charity shop..
I used to really prefer 3-doors, but the 5-doors make much more sense IMO. These new hatches are so big now, that you might aswell have the extra practicality. I'm not sure i could go back to something like a Scirocco, with 2 really big, heavy and clumsy doors that just become a pain. I'll admit they do look better aesthetically, but it's just not personally a deal breaker for me anymore.

Which is funny, as the A35 is pretty much all of those things too, apart from the nobs and buttons point...If I had to have a car in that sector, I think I'd rather have an A35 AMG.
Boring to look at - check
Crap interior - check
No manual option - check

Any options still put you in the higher tax bracketIf the threshold was higher or didn't exist at all, would that do anything for you?
Also, what needs to be specced on this to get it to £50k?
All genuine questions btw.
