Mitsubishi FTO V6 with a manual box in dog knob red with 3 days MOT, 1 days tax left and had been abandoned due to running issues for 6 months at least - council were threatening to crush it if it didn't get an MOT and re-taxed

I have no idea why I bought it.

It was a PITA to fix (Alternator issues turned out to be broken loom), the paint work was horrid (faded all over) and I eventually swapped it for a Motorcycle when I'd finished fixing it

Here it is ready to be delivered

And escaping with the swap

Oh I remember why I bought it it was £100....... I should have left it to be crushed

I got bored whilst waiting for my daughter at a kids birthday party and won an eBay auction for a MK2 MR2, I found it with 3 minutes remaining and bid on it without reading the description. It turned out it had an auto gearbox with a massive 120hp.

But it was enough to get under my skin and was soon replaced with another MR2 with an appropriate amount of power and that was replaced with 2 more mr2s both quicker still.

I quite wanted a project, so was set on purchasing a Caterham Supersport, in kit form. After some research, I realised I wouldn't have the skill, patience, time, or space, So I decided to buy one ready built instead.

I drove it once (twice including the drive home) and realised it sadly wasn't for me (and the throttle cable got stuck on full) so sold it within a month.

Mk2 Cavalier CalibrE.

Wife was not impressed. Kids were not impressed.

It broke down the first time we went out in it.

A few weeks ago I bought a bright green 2003 Nissan Micra with 189k miles on it for €250 euro.

Has an NCT (MOT) for 3 months.

Not quite sure why, it just looked cool, it's not! It just about runs, broke down on the way home, EML light is on, probably requires a timing chain (I did all the research after I got home).

Anyway, it's budget motoring at it's best it will get nothing spent on it unless it passes it's next NCT in May.

Mk2 Cavalier CDi auto.

Wife would not believe it was free and had 3 months tax and 6 months mot.

Mk2 cavalier Sri.

Wife could not believe I'd paid £40 for a car with a massive dent in the rear door.

It was the 520d touring for me. The X5 4.8iS was killing me in fuel costs so I thought that it would be a good idea(it wasn't) to go for something economical. Being an engine man I obviously just couldn't stomach the 20d engine at all. The reality was that I ended up with a car that was sluggish, had an unrewarding engine to use...whilst not actually being all that economical because of the 1700kg weight. A serious own goal on my part for sure.

I once purchased an Austin 1100 for £120 a decade ago at Uni whilst aged 18 unseen off Facebook.

I ended up breaking it for parts and the 12g295 head went for more than I paid for it!

Back in the mid nineties I got out of an 635csi high line that I loved into a Peugeot 306 S16 and even on the drive home I was wondering why I had done it. Then in 2014, again on a whim, traded a Range Rover that I had from new into a merc CLK Black Series kept it for a year then back into a Range Rover. I’ve had plenty of performance cars over the years but those two were totally random blips.

I set of one day to buy a 2007 V70 D5 in good order as a comuting tool but on arrival, discovered the guy had a yellow Volvo 850 T-5R that had been sat unused for about a year by his house... so I bought that instead.

Seemed like a great idea at the time.

Yeah, that's a bit more random than a Skoda! It looks great - what is it, and is there a Reader's Cars thread on it?

its a Lotus 22 formula junior fitted with a kawasaki zx9r engine , road registered , I've had her since 2006 , in the process of stripping the engine down and modifying the exhaust its got a quaiffe diff , allowing you to select reverse gear , weighs around 400 kg , the chap i bought her off also had an atom , and said the lotus was faster than his atom ,

trouble is with me being away , ive really not used her in the last two years
