ooh, not a fan of SUV and sort, but love that 90 V8 well done Land Rover, wonder what such 90 V8 weights, hope it stays under the 2.000kg
Doesn't it weigh more than that with the 4 cyl engine and base trim? Surely 2500kg a more likely target?but at pressent day they have more use of lightweight materials and methodes, so I was hoping less then...
Yesterday I saw the price what it will be at a minimum in the Netherlands...
because of the high tax 21% and very high BPM on Co2 basis per gram... the V8 90 wil cost at least 200.000 ++ euro's.
so you need deep pockets (filled with money that is)

I managed to get my Focus RS out of a very muddy Silverstone GP carpark by just plotting a route that meant I didn't need to stop, those car parks can be terrible! I knew if I had to stop I was probably done for!
Ha, reminds me of the one time I've been to Le Mans - was in my GT3 and needed to drive over a muddy bank to get into the campsite. I envisgaed that ripping the front splitter off or getting completely beached on top of the bank was going to cause much amusement to the nearby crowds but thankfully a mix of angle and a little momentum got me over!I'm sure this Pretender wouldn't have managed it.
Through these gruelling experiences I have learned that successfull terrain crossing is no different to afterwork drinking. You either choose to leave early before people start making a mess or you dig in and just hope someone will be nearby and selling a bacon butty in the morning.
The two core advantages of the LR product over the superior 540 and Griff off-roaders is that you can depart the field sedately so your passenger doesn't have to stand in the road holding back the traffic while you come flying through between the gate posts hoping for some form of traction on the tarmac, plus they a lovely places to sleep the night while waiting for someone to start cooking the bacon.

I've had two narrow escapes over the years where a lot of pain was saved by being in the right kit. There was a swamped out Goodwood when luckily I opted to take a 540 auto over the Rangie or I would have been there trapped with all the others. And then there was that Silverstone one where again, the gods were looking over me and I chose the Griff over the Rangie, pretty much because of its love of going off-road, usually backwards but I guess that's some specialist off raider technique known only to the kind of weapons grade bellend that uses the term 'seat time'.

My version of that was with the 'Beast from the East', where I had to tackle the eye of the storm, returning to Swansea from London. My weapon of choice: An R53 CooperS, which was obviously far superior than the RaRo sat on my driveway, with its winter tyres and snow-chains & shovel in the boot.

We can now have the UK vs US pricing argument, they think it's a lot too....

The Spawtaa has an image problem to me, for now at least the Defender doesn't.
Yeah, the image problems come when the punters have had them a while and they become familiar, pretty much a blank sheet of paper at the moment. It starts off with basically the marketing guff and hype, its new and shiny and there is a hint of the good bits of old LR heritage going on.
Add some creative registration plates, questionable modifications and being driven badly then the image will get tarnished, and its not the cars fault.
Reckon it has 4/5 years before this happens, the RR "Spawwtaa (Been listening to Smith and Sniff ? ) has been around ages, and to be fair the new ones look alright, the old shape ones when modified tend to look a bit tragic, but an original with no mods and preferably no pimp tints is almost looking like a classic.
I really do quite like the new Defender, not something I wold buy even if I had the cash there but can certainly see the appeal.

Unfortunately the cup tyres proved less biddable on the way home as the snow settled on the Surrey Hills..!
