RE: 2021 VW Tiguan R order books open

The optional akrapovic exhaust is £3,100 according to the UK configurator.
I quite like it, but once you add a couple of things like audio upgrade, pan roof and discover pro you're nudging £50k which feels a lot versus a comparably specced M40i and is a lot more than the Ateca with ostensibly the same powertrain.

That interior is shocking for a £45k car.
Perhaps I'm alone on this but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. It looks they've actually prioritised usability over something that looks fancy in press photos. Worse thing to happen to modern cars is massive touch screens controlling everything.

Looks nice if you want this sort of thing but £46k and no leather seats.
It's because the Germans have gone all Eco developed a phobia about animal based products, such as leather on the seats.Witness Autogefuhl on YouTube - on reviews, he often marks cars down for having "animal skin" seats.
Curiously, the UK prefers leather to cloth.

If the problem is that a Golf R is too obvious - *that* is not going to be solved by choosing an SUV...
I laughed when i read that too I want something more exclusive than a golf - i know, i'll buy an SUV, hardly anyone drives those do they..
Although i'm not a fan of SUV's, sitting up high does nothing for me, i do think this is better looking than the new Golf.
Does anyone know the boot size, i imagine many who buy one will be wanting additional practicality.
I managed to find out its weight, 1746kg, so as you'd expect it's notably flabbier than the Golf.

Wife has a normal one of these as they didn't have a 'hot' one when we got it. The need was for a baby car and this was bought as a bit of a white good. We've actually really come to like it, massage seat, pano roof, car play etc all make it an easy to live with nice place to be. It's not the first word in interior styling but then again it's got a good quality feel to it.
Our current one is up for change come next march and we will be looking at one of these. In the blue. With the roof and upgraded stereo.
And I don't even like SUV's. It's this or a base spec Macan (I was told in no uncertain terms) and that's a lot more money. Plus servicing etc is more.
Space wise, they aren't huge inside. Or at least we are able to fill it easily. My 440i GC has quite a bit more boot space, just not in the height.

I have a year old 230 TSI 4motion Tiguan, which was previously the warmest version available. Thoughts:
- the 230ps lump (an old iteration of the Golf GTI lump) is a bit overwhelmed by the lardiness of the Tiguan and I would enjoy the extra power of the R;
- the Tiguan's other problem is the dullness of the drive and steering. If the R version cuts the understeeriness, great. If it allows the power to be rear- rather than front-biased, even better, but I'm not sure whether it does that. BMW's xdrive it is not.
But those are the only things that might get me interested. The price of the R is ridiculous. The seats are gash (compared particularly to an SEL/Elegance which has very smart if dull interior). The new haptic controls are an act of self sabotage by VW. And the wheels are very silly indeed. The road noise will be irritating, the kerb rash instant and the tyre replacement cost criminal.
Will keep running my TSI on its sensible-ish 19s and just remap it in a couple of years to "keep the marriage fresh".
