RE: 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR | UK Review
Discussion
I'm not a JLR basher - far from it - but it seems a great shame that it has taken a crisis at Jaguar to get the interiors right (XE, XF and F-Pace). 1st shot, the accountants rule and save a few hundred quid per vehicle x 100,00 odd thousand annual sales across the range = meaningful saving. 2nd shot sales now well below projected numbers, brand in crisis, lets upgrade interiors to match best in class. Sadly damage already. done.
The F-Pace is a superbly packaged vehicle and is smaller on the outside than the Cayenne but bigger inside.
The F-Pace SVR has 1740 litres of space compared to the Cayenne Turbos 1678. The Macan trails with a paltry 1503.
The F-Pace is not a Macan rival, it is a Cayenne rival and in every sense apart from price as it's £25000 cheaper at base price.

I agree with others in that the interior design is a real triumph in this although I don't find Jaguar products desirable in general.
As for a future classic; I can't help thinking that picking up the car below would be a decent bet at the price it is now; especially in lieu of the recent announcement by Jaguar;

Agreed, it's surely the fact that they are LHD that's kept these from selling out.As for a future classic; I can't help thinking that picking up the car below would be a decent bet at the price it is now; especially in lieu of the recent announcement by Jaguar;

I also wonder what the split would have been if the touring was an unlimited option from the beginning, for me they possibly left that itteration a little too late. The success of models like the 991 GT3 Touring suggest that there is a bouyant market for having all the performance of these more focused models within a relatively discrete package.TheOrangePeril said:
Then again fast "Sports Utility Vehicles" always seem to look a bit daft. Why lug around all that extra weight for nothing? Keen for this silly trend to be over.
Less choice is a good thing?The trend started a while ago (LM002 was mid 80's I guess) so I guess it's here to stay.
So, good review, and a good car apparently. But this

Brass tacks, the F-Pace wasn't up to snuff before, now it assuredly is.
made me stop and wonder. I don't remember anything like that conclusion from previous reviews of the F-Pace SVR; and going back to the original PH reviews, sure enough you have to really hunt to find that kind of conclusion. Sure, you suggest that the cabin doesn't match the Porsche, although it's better than the Alfa; and it's a bit soft in the ride, but that better suits British roads. And the final line is "But as an ownership proposition for someone faced with UK weather and roads, the SVR might just have it beat."Which kinda sums up the problems with motor journalism. This has always been the way of it really. As much I as quite enjoy reading (or watching) a review here and there, I always take them with a pinch of salt so to speak. Part of a car journo's job is be an extention of the advertising industry, to create demand for new products. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, it is what it is.article said:

Is this current iteration of the 5.0 still the Ford 5.0 that's been going years? They've got their monies worth if it is!
The V8 was originally developed under ford ownership in the 1990's but it's a jaguar design I think.The 5.0 is a very different engine to the old 4.0/4.2's but essentially the same since 2009/10 when it was introduced.

Bears no relationship to the Ford V8 in the Mustang other than Ford owned the company when it was designed It's relationship to the prior 4.0l/4.2l is very small except it had to be made by the same production line with as little change as possible (to the line, not the engine) so some of the design is influenced by this, but it is in essence a completely different engine
I had a run through the Jag online configurator and, apart from the naff range of standard colours, was impressed by the spec. At last suedecloth seat faces instead of leather. I managed to get to the end of the build without wanting to tick a single cost option.
Those who say this car is a Cayenne competitor are ignoring the reality – it’s just a shade bigger than a Macan. The lengths are (according to Autocar mag):
Macan 4692mm
F-Pace 4746mm (54mm bigger than Macan, 172mm smaller than Cayenne)
Cayenne 4918mm
And for comparison:
Range Rover Sport 4850mm
Full Fat Range Rover 4999mm
The Cayenne is a lot bigger than F-Pace and mid way between RRS and FF RR.
The boot space of the F-Pace (650L) is a lot better than the Macan (500L) given the 54mm greater length so the F-Pace must be better packaged. Didn’t think I’d ever say a Jag is well packaged. Typically they’re seemingly bloated outside and cramped inside.
From a price, performance and size perspective this SVR competes strongly with the Macan Turbo. Comparison test anybody ? The V8 engine has to give it the edge in my book, though.
When I was car shopping in 2019/20 I rejected the F-Pace outright due to its inadequate powertrains and horrible interior. Those 4-cylinder jobs may have an impressive power spec but will never compete with the character of a 6 cylinder. At least Jaguar now has better engine options but the 6 is far too expensive. Especially compared to the Macan S (which I put my money into). The interior is a lot better now too.

Just what our battered crumbling roads needed. Another overweight, bloated oversized super tanker for the streets!
The fact that 22" wheels don't look too big on this thing tells you all you need to know.
Meh not my bag at all. They'll sell loads no doubt.
