Is weight that big a deal for most of us?
We get told that electric cars are great for the environment and that they are the future, yet they are seriously heavy things that could potentially eat through the suspension/tyres/brakes. As a general rule all the heavy cars I've had have been worse to drive in the corners and under braking than the lighter cars I've had. Although I'm told that these things don't suffer from that because the batteries give them a great CofG.
On here you often read how pointless and overweight a Range Rover is, yet these things pretty much weigh the same and they are lauded as the second coming(in reviews etc). I just don't get it. I'm a dinosaur though to be fair and I'm a big fan of the ICE so that probably doesn't help.

I actually think it’s a bit of a looker! Raise that roof abit further back and could make a handsome estate.
A bit like this then...Rain Prisk

They're certainly better than an ICE car of equivalent weight; I'd expect this to comfortably out-handle an RS6 for example. It's never going to feel like an Elise though!cerb4.5lee said:

Not brakes. Since buying a BEV I have been amazed how little you need the brakes given the regen braking. My RS4 eats them. Obviously if you are going for it you need lots of braking, but in general driving (i3 and eTron) it's often one pedal only.As a general rule all the heavy cars I've had have been worse to drive in the corners and under braking than the lighter cars I've had. Looks fantastic inside and out but I just cant get along with the weight of these things, nor do I really care about performance EV. Imagine if we could create something that still looks like this, weighs more like 1347kg and we stopped trying to hit 60mph in 3 seconds, using the energy to improve range distance, then we would be onto something.

The one above is so practical it needs a roof box...
I have just driven back from an appointment in an old Elise that hasn't even got a radio.
It made me think that the Audi certainly has lots of lights and buttons inside. I am so behind the times that I can't even begin to work out what they would all be needed for or what they all do?
Having said that it looks a fantastic thing and if I wanted a big, fast electric car it would be just the thing.

It doesn't work like that though - reducing the power output of an EV doesn't really significantly increase its range or reduce its weight. The reason most EVs are so fast is that there's really no significant penalty for making them so. abzmike said:
Looks very dynamic, even if the from end is a bit fussy - certainly makes an impression. Should drive great. But why get one ahead of a Taycan, unless a buyer is allergic to Porsche, or can’t wait?
I agree, there are some very attractive TT references to the rear but generally the car is too fussy. Remove some (a lot) of the detail, reduce the front a little and this car could be stunning.Maybe we need a reverse Masonry?

There are concerns for me, in terms of weight as a heavy car will wear out roads faster and God knows they don't repair them now.
My second principal concern is actually increased use and filling up the roads. Once EVs proliferate, I can't help thinking that mileage will be less of an issue, the car will become an appliance and the "cheaper" cost of journeys will lead us back to a 1950s mentality where everybody will be out on day trips so more wear on roads, more clogging of roads etc.
High cost may also mean people keep these EVs far longer or perhaps leasing will just become universal.
I don't think the overall mileage of road users would go up. I don't know many people who don't drive where they have to drive to because it'll add miles to the car. Those that do are likely petrol heads (and would use another car for mundane duties, and probably wouldn't use ab electric car for "fun" trips) so I can't see that being a concern. RE weight and roads.... I think it's more of an issue with weather than the weight. I mean, lorries weigh an awful lot more than cars. As cars get heavier their tyres get wider thus pressure on the road is not necessarily that much different?

Probably cant lose a ton of weight either with an electric motor car but imagine if we could.Meridius said:

Colour: Love it
Back End: Really nice and tidy
Front End: Fussy, too many shapes and lines
Interior: Looks functional, would take that all day long over an iPad stuck to the dash
Not sure on the colour but at least it's different. Back End: Really nice and tidy

I'm really with you on the interior, so glad to see somebody finally scrapping the stuck-on iPads and going for proper buttons on the stuff that matters. It looks a really good place to be.
