Looked around and cannot find a definitive answer to this question. I have my private plate on retention, I am going to collect my car on Monday - can the dealer whilst I'm there transfer ownership and do the private plate all at the same time?

He 'thinks' it is possible. I'm sure it is, what with everything being done online now. Have put private plats on cars easily in the past as I have done with the change of ownership.

Does anyone know if possible? Would just be nice to driveway with my new plate on it

To do it online, new to you vehicle needs to already be in your name.

Nope, you will need the new to you car registered to you first, once you have the V5C in your possession then you can put the plate on the car.

Nope, had exactly this problem with a car and plate birthday present for the missus. Car was not in my name, computer said no.

It will work online if you use the name and address on the V5. But bear in mind you then lose the right to the plate if you end up not taking ownership of the car for some reason. The new V5 will, however go to that address.

To do it legitimately, you'll need to wait about three or four days for the V5 to arrive... They're really fast at the moment.

If the car is in trade you can't put a plate on or take a plate off, got to be registered to someone to mess around with a plate.
