They’ve nicked the forged BBS wheels from the GR Yaris’ circuit pack! Bloody cheek...

Inside looks nice, but outside is quite boring. I prefer the looks of the original. Still, we should be happy that someone is still making cars like this.

Interesting. The 2.4 with a S/C kit to keep the flat torque curve and 300 bhp - would ween me off the MX-5. A poor man's Cayman ..

I like it, looks like they’ve done a good job.

I wonder if a roadster variant would take the fight to the MX-5....that’s where the volume is in this market.

I suspect one isn’t likely, but it would be good to see more on the road than the last gen. In Europe at least!
I think that would sell really well and I'd be interested, but I assume that think that the engineering wouldn't pay for itself? It's a shame because it would be nice to have the choice between this or an mx5

Would much rather have one of these than the Yaris GR.

Pleasantly surprised by that. Looks much better - and they've got rid of the god awful wheels!

With regards to it coming to the UK, Toyota UK have confirmed on Twitter: "UK release scheduled, with more details on launch date, pricing and performance figures to be available soon."

Another brilliant new Toyota - you have to hand it to them.

Yep, agreed. Although aftermarket changeable the alloys on the first gen were appaling and ruined the car. I guess at the time those type of alloys were a trend for some reason which I’m glad is now looking to be a bit over.

Very interesting car now this looks a much nicer design overall. This + a supercharger at 300bhp and £30k would have been a great car... regardless I’m glad it’s being made so kudos to toyota on their current drive to make interesting cars again just hope it pays off financially. Odd to be making such a resurgence when the dawn of mass electric is basically here now.

I'd bet most of the improvement in acceleration is down to the switch in tyres; putting a set of PS4 on the first generation made a huge difference to that. IMO that was Toyota's biggest mistake with the original - using crap tyres "because drift". They were awful in the cold and wet and had no traction.

Otherwise - this is just a light reskinning of the original car, isn't it? Engine bay layout, interior layout, side window line, overall dimensions all the same, even the weight. Nice to see it carrying on but the styling has become a bit generic. Not sure the aluminium everywhere is news either, the original had that too. Overall there's nothing here that would convince me to switch my 2015 GT86 for one, even if I hadn't supercharged it.

I much prefer the styling of my 2013 GT86.

I feel bloody lucky to own such a car, and I love the fact Toyota are bringing the ruckus for us driving fans, awesome stuff from a great company.

Same here smile

Much closer to the mark with this than with the predecessor. I like the more reconciled styling, the alloys suits the car and the BHP feels about right (or closer to it at least).

If they can offer a 0% or 1.9% APR deal with sensible residuals like they're doing with the Yaris GR, these could be a seller.

My one thought on looking at this is how much better it would look with "pop-up" headlights. Now I know that for safety reasons (a tendency to mangle any unfortunate pedestrians that get hit) they are no longer possible but with new LED designs might it not be possible to hide/disguise the headlights in soe other way? A sliding flush cover perhaps.

Anyhow looks very nice. Well done Toyota.

There’s no longer ‘clear blue water’ between said model & A110. Intrigued to know the pricing.
£30k car vs £50k car plus or minus a few £k ?

I’m guessing it will cost about £32k for the improvements over the original

I like the look of this but I'm currently thinking of getting the original version. Can anyone advise a good place to discuss the GT-86? Not much chat on PH, FB groups any better? Sorry for the drift wink

The brakes on the GRY are absolutely brilliant in terms of feel and repeatability (and stopping the car!). Just wish the four way flashers didn't come on when you use them in anger.

This was posted at the same time as the post by Simon Owen - not intended to appear as a reply to him- just a guess on pricing

I hope they managed to get rid of the torque dip at 4000rpm on this newer version. Although road tests didn’t mention it, its owners most common gripe on the old car.
