Opinions on loud exhausts

Generally, I'm of the factory is loud enough opinion.
You can hear the car well enough inside (And if you claim you can't, get your hearing checked. You've probably wrecked it with deafening exhausts...); Nobody else needs to be subjected to your car noises, As much as you might like engine noises, they probably don't care.
Loud exhausts are far more likely to negatively affect perception by 99% of people; Rumbling through a village with a factory quiet, but toneful exhaust is much better than screaming through (At the same speed) with machinegun overrun and the likes.

I don't mind loud exhausts as long as they are not obtrusively loud or used in an obtrusive manner. Let me know your opinions
For example if you have a loud exhaust on your car and leave for work early in the morning. If you start your car and drive off within a few seconds, that is OK.
If you sit there idling / revving for 5 minutes, that isn't OK.
Also some consideration to the car making the noise.
While I have no problem with someone putting a louder exhaust on their Corsa 1.2, I expect that if it's louder than a Corvette V8 then that is un reasonable.
Same for people flooring it around built up areas late at night, just to get their exhaust to make noise between the walls etc.
Basically I don't care how loud as long as its not "too loud" (and this is a staggered scale according to engine size) and usage (don't be a selfish prick!)
It's not the volume that gets me it's the tone of the sound that I am more sensitive to and I find loud 2 stroke bikes far more irritating than any car I have heard.
I have very little issue with a loud exhaust but don't get me started on pointless "pops, bangs and crackles" bulls

Can't agree more, i know i am getting old and i dont understand how cool it is but if you have to go racing past in a residential street just so your exhaust pops and bangs, to me it doesnt make you cool.t - this is the most annoying craze of the last few years. Gameface said:
Its totally vehicle dependent. My car's all have sports exhausts. No-one has ever complained to me about them presumably because they are the right sort of car to have them. A 4 cylinder Vauxhall is another matter.
Not having a go, but if your exhaust annoys someone apart from your next door neighbor, how can they complain to you, short of flagging you down or following you home?If it's a car such as a TVR or Jag with a cultured and intelligent motoring enthusiast at the helm (not unlike myself) then a loud exhaust is fantastic.
If it's a modified hatchback (particularly one with a Ford or VAG badge) then it is being driven by a hooligan boy racer chav and I hate it, they should all be locked up.

I bought a 70's Ducati with 'conti replica' mufflers - basically megaphones. Even in the shed with the door shut, it woke the neighbours' baby (who then cried) every time I started it.I refitted the original Lafranconi mufflers that came with the bike after a week - it sounded a lot better, somewhat quieter, and no more crying babies
All down to the car and how its being driven.
Big tail pipes look shart to me. It usually comes down to the amount of cylinders. 6 sounds nice, 8 even better and anything north of that is music to me!
Ive got a factory sports exhaust on my Porsche that is quite loud but you can switch it off in the wrong circumstances 🙂

Not having a go, but if your exhaust annoys someone apart from your next door neighbor, how can they complain to you, short of flagging you down or following you home?No-one has ever mentioned anything at traffic lights, petrol stations (all three of them flare the revs on start up which I could do without sometimes), car parks, traffic jams or any other stationary or low speed environment.
Quite the opposite. Only had positive comments, banter and encouragement to rev them more.
Maybe some people have cursed under their breath about them but I can only say what I've experienced first hand and none of it has been negative.
