I have memories of an RD350LC with Microns. (Off set) Bored out with 3mm oversize pistons due to a massive seizure (which bent a con rod).

Now in hindsight that was noisy and horrible. But as a 20 year old perfect. (1987)

I did once get stopped by the police. At 7am on a Sunday Morning having got my knee on the ground on a roundabout at the top of Belgrade Middleway in Birmingham.
He was on a motorbike and once he knew I had a tax disc, let me go with the words "just be bloody careful lad"
Never mentioned the hideous noise.
My 350LC had microns fitted. I was coming home from the girlfriends one night and not particularly gunning it when I came across a police car parked in the road with the copper sat on the boot with his arms folded. I pulled up behind him and he told me that he had heard me coming from the other side of town laugh Liked the bike and let me on my way telling me to keep the noise down confused

I like a nice sounding exhaust on a nice car as much as any other car enthusiast, but earlier today I and many others were aurally assaulted by the most loud horrible and plain nasty exhaust on an Audi RS, along with a pop & bang map. It was as anti-social as if the driver was walking along the pavement hurling abuse at people and spitting in their faces and laughing. It really annoyed me and several others, to the degree that derogatory comments were being made between passers by having just jumped out of their skins. Unacceptable. I just don't understand why someone would want to annoy people like that, it must've been beyond obvious to the obnoxious prick driving it.

I have an rs4 b7.
Why people put louder exhausts on them is beyond me.
Maybe ‘council’ ?

Maps with pops n bangs are most certainly ‘council’ regardless of marque.

C63 AMG seems to be the noisy chavmobile of choice round here. On and off full throttle through the 30mph zones is not cool. Focus STs are also pretty awful.
I've been tempted a few times to go the secondary cat delete route, but even as standard I think it sounds great.

My neighbours might disagree.

That sounds great as it is. I wouldn't remove the cat, but possibly replace with a sport cat.

My car has an exhaust that's loud on heavy throttle but suitably quiet when not.

Something perpetually loud would drive me nuts.

Thanks.

It's seems a very common mod, the main cat doesn't get touched, just the secondary ones.

To be honest, I doubt I'll do it. The car is over 10 years old now. Theres more value in keeping it standard these days.

Ashamed to admit that I've just bought a Mini Clubman Cooper S, this has a pop and bang map from the factory when in sport mode. What's worse is I quite like it, its childish I know getmecoat

I tend to only use it when on a nice empty road though, I wont ever be the sort of person who's hammering the throttle on and off through town though. That is exclusively reserved for cock sockets.

Having had a couple drive past me while on my bike I find the Fiat 500 abarth with quad pipes and Fiat 124 (not sure if its an Abarth) with similar quad pipes sound particularly st. Like a child farting through a large diameter pipe.

Maybe the cows.

I love a loud exhaust but only switch it on when I’m bombing about in the country where no-one but me can hear it.

Horse riders won’t hear it because I turn it off.
Walkers will hear it if they are walking on the road.
Cyclists will definitely hear it.
I see it as a safety measure.

Nothing wrong with straight piping a nice 6 or 8 cylinder high revving engine - sound wise at least

Otherwise it’s a Nono

My wife has a firm opinion on my Vanquish's exhaust. It is far too loud.

That means it is just right.

However, she might have a point - when I start it up, passers-by do jump. When I heard the noise, I knew I had to buy one (I had the normal Vanquish but the Vanquish S has the better noise).
Is it one of those that does a fake rev jump at start up? They are a bit naff.
They all do that, sir.
https://vimeo.com/401893215#t=0m55s

It isn't the noise on start up, though. It is the noise when one is driving it that is glorious.
Ah that's a shame, it rather spoils it for me.
It's lucky then that it's not your car , innit !

I saw a Huracan Performante today ,it was accelerating a bit . .

I approved of it's V10 sound......cool
Yeah the start up thing is a shame.
Unless you own one, then youd probably love it wink
I would love to have one, but I wouldnt love the start up. It's a bit like a DSG fart noise, rather fake and a bit naff IMO
Your comment is based on a suspicion, not fact, i ‘suspect’ if your position was such that you ‘did’ own it then your reception of said function would alter undoubtedly, to what extent is more unknown i guess.

smile, If I had one and it didn't have that programmed in, I would probably still do it, just for the glorious noise smile

But, if I did have one, I would prefer not to have it done by electronics and have the option not for it to happen, seems an odd 'feature' at first, but I bet it sells well on the demo. You would not be able to hold back the grin as it starts I bet.

I sometimes think my Carrera could do with a little more 'edge' releasing from its exhaust sound. Its got the full air cooled flat six noise at 10/10ths but its surprisingly quiet most of the time (well, apart from the period gearbox/shifter rattles)

Above all, a nice sound is a nice sound. Don't want it in my ears at 4am, not to happy when a sports bike with a 'race' can gives it full beans every single day for 3 months (though I suspect he eventually fell off).

But I am going to miss a nice noise when everything is electric and petrol cars are limping from heritage fuel stop to heritage fuel stop, especially V10's. They are the pinnacle for me.
I have to say I'd never noticed it - and it doesn't bother me either way.

That is starting it in Sports mode (which is set as my default). It might not do it in Normal - I will have to check (can't remember the last time it was out of Sports TBH).
Apologies for the huge requote but, just to wrap this one up, it does the little "start-up rev" in Normal mode too.
