I don’t REALLY care about Ring times and I do want a GR Yaris but I did think it would be more than 2 secs quicker than the R26.R was in 2008/9.

Very light, no rear seats + cage + sabelt bucket seats and harnesses, no radio, no airbags, no climate, polycarb windows, totally focussed on track performance including Toyo 888 track tyres.

Where is the evidence that it hit it's limiter at all? On the Dottingher Hoe (uphill) it hit 227kph, and the limiter from what I can gather is at 230kph.

Still a good time, and if you've been around the ring at 8 min BTG pace you'll know that's damn fast!

Yep, R26 R was 30kgs lighter and 30bhp less powerful and it was 13 years ago

Who knows what it will be used for. Perhaps some people will use them in amateur rallying or for driving on unsealed roads like in Sweden and NZ. It's not a fragile little wallflower of a car.

What we do know from the PH threads about his car is that a lot of very well heeled people are buying them. If they choose to play rough with the Yaris they have the deep pockets for it. biggrin

It's all terribly sad that people are expecting a Yaris to go sub 8min when the likelihood is they personally couldn't drive one around in 10min.
I think it'd be fairly easy to get round one in sub 10

I stopped at the part where a comparison was made with a Range Rover SVR.

Me too, skipped the vid and just skimmed the comments.

I do love a 3 pedal manual but watching the video it does seem a bit old fashioned having to faff around with the gearstick though.
Old fashioned and a faff!

Words I never thought I would hear from you, the M4 has obviously had quite an effect on you.

Dale Lomas’s thoughts on it https://www.bridgetogantry.com/the-yaris-gr-is-not...

Good points. It’s fun and more manufacturers should take note.

What is it that makes it fun?

The fun bit?
It was described as fun.
We all have different ideas of fun.
I think it would probably be great fun.
It certainly looked like great fun.
Funny how we all have different ideas of fun.

Mini is on semi-slick trackday tyres. They'll be worth a huge amount of time.

Not too shabby on PS4S and hitting its top speed halfway down the Döttinger Höhe. Think the FK8 did 8:01 on the Sport Auto test but unsure what rubber that was on and that has a 169mph top speed and more significant aero, so the GR time is in the ball park of where i'd expect it to be.
I wonder just how much difference the speed limiter makes to the ‘Ring time. Looking at the similarly accelerative FK8’s lap (briefly the fastest FWD lap at 7:43.8), it travels at over 230 km/h for around 25 seconds down Döttinger Höhe:

I estimate it’s averaging 250 km/h for these 25 seconds.
At 230 km/h this same section (1.74 km) would take approx. 27 seconds.

So I don’t think the GR Yaris’ speed limiter is making much difference to its time, +2 seconds at most.
That's the Honda lap, not the Sport Auto lap. It was already going banzai coming out Galgenkopf with its Cup 2's and stripped interior. It continued to accelerate up to 165mph compared to the GR's 143mph. Looked to be about 3s difference gantry to bridge, then another 1.5s or so from the bridge to the entry to Tiergarten. Would be interesting to see what the SA lap did there but I can't find the video. No doubt about it though, the FK8 is flippin' fast... ugly, but fast!

I read the fastest bridge to gantry time for a GR Yaris, and this one was a circuit pack edition too, with sticky tyres, was 7:56 ....
A totally stock M140i did it in 7:54 ......
Both are on YuToob.
I'd post but knowing PH I'd get a warning or ban for posting a link ffs.

It's a spiritual successor to the EVO 6/Impreza STI/Celica GT4 for me, and they wouldn't have been suited to the ring either. I say that as a compliment in case anyone is wondering.
Not sure about that. The Impreza STi Spec C RA was the first saloon car to pull a sub 8min lap afaik and I have seen some very fast Evos there too.

Here is a sub 8 BTG lap:

I think it's impressive as personally I have only managed a 9min lap in a Megane R26 having only done around 40 laps and even that felt pretty quick.

I thought that the car didn't look especially suited to that environment being fair as well. I reckon the car would look much better blasting across a nice rally stage in the forest. cool
As much as I like the Yaris GR, I'm under no illusions that it's fit for rallying. It would be blown to bits by the end of one gravel stage.

Wow!
Slowed down at least twice.
Lost at least a second behind the RS Megane at the end.

Better/faster driving than the SportAuto video.
