570GT broken rear latch means I can’t drive car

No drama, used fob to open rear glass to load bags in the back. Tried to shut it but latch won’t catch. Tried slamming, gently pushing, fiddling with the mechanism, locking and unlocking and a good 10mins of swearing at the car - basil fawlty style. No joy. Any suggestions, heard this is a known fail? Can’t drive car with back open. Car under warranty so supplying dealer suggested I call McL breakdown recovery to get car to them otherwise they would charge a fee!!!

Duct tape. Dont drive at silly speed.

I thought about that and have roll of bd-strength gorilla tape I could use. However wasnt keen on anchoring it on the paint work plus I am quite a ways from the dealer

I had a problem with my engine lid (one side often didn't unlatch). I did a search and found a few posts suggesting that it might be cured by pulling / re-inserting the fuse for the door locks.

It didn't work for me - but might be worth a try.

(Incidentally, my (single) experience of McLaren assistance is very good - the guy who came to me really seemed to know his stuff. Since your issue makes the car undriveable they may well be the best option, and I'm sure they would take it to the dealer if they can't get it working).

Its amazing how little it takes to put a car off the road. I've had two 911s which both couldn't be used because the window raising cable broke and the window was half open. Seems like nothing but you can't park it anywhere as its not secure and obviously its not waterproof. So car useless until you get to the dealer.

Boot latch is even more fundamental and even more simple mechanically.

Apply the tape on the inside of the glass/trim. No paintwork issues then. The rear screen is quite heavy so I don't expect it to fly open far at 30-50mph so you could probably drive along OK.

This contemporary phenomenon smacks of a manufacturers conspiracy and main dealers are happy.

Thought about it and gaffer taping a McL can’t be the solution! (thank you for some good suggestions). Will get McL breakdown recovery involved and keep you updated

Most mclarens should fit under a closed ticket barrier.

Or you could stop take the ticket or put it in the machine, put the window back up and drive off.
