My first job was with a Kia dealership around 2003 and I had a demo Kia Magentis which was an appalling lump of a car, still better than this though!

Shed cant win just now- he features a modern car like the Fiat 500 the other week and people moan and lament the lack of obscure big barges- he obliges with this weeks rareish Hyundai Sonata and everyone hates it- maybe it’s me or maybe it’s Covid but everyone seems a critic these days..

I have one of these (yes really). It is the newer, much prettier, even more forgettable to look at version. I bought it during lockdown last year as I gave my company car back and wanted something big and cheap that I could chuck stuff in and not care about rather than driving my trackday mx5 everywhere. Truly awful car, the big positives are you know no one is going to nick it, someone reversed into it in tescos car park the other day which did it a favour and didn't spoil my day. Main reason for keeping it so long is to see how many times I get asked 'why have you still got that piece of crap?' by my friends.

I thought it might be like a cheap E220d, it isn't.

£300+ road tax ?

usually no matter how bad the SOTW is we hear plenty of stories and discussion from past owners who had them from new, or as a first car or they crashed one, etc. Even occasionally you get a fanboi of the marque like that LionKingMonk guy.

But this, just nothing. Nope, Nil. Nada....

It just shows how far Hyundai has come. One for the scrap heap.
No: one for A to B family sized use for someone with no interest in cars, but needs to be priced at £999 or less.

Did a 6 week driving tour of the US about 20 years ago. Booked an intermediate and the choice was one of these or a Lancer. Never been so disappointed. Took the Lancer.

we should club together - buy it for £500 -as no one will ever pay the asking price - then scrap it!

Dear me, that really has no redeeming features whatsoever!

Not quick, ugly, costly to run, not especially reliable even. Really just buy a shonky Avensis for the same money if big and ugly is what you want, it'll have more toys, be cheaper to run and it will run and run and run.

What would you think about this... I once bought a Proton GL 1.3 because I'd already decided that I would buy the cheapest car in the country, whatever it was, at the time on AT (it was £175) so I left Newcastle for Nottingham to pick it up. Did I respect myself? I didn't really care. Would I respect a like you with a mindset like yours? No.
That's a bite

Some people just don't get it. Drive what you want where you want when you want, I've owned a few hundred cars now and had a blast using this simple rule of engagement. I couldn't give a damn if others respect me or what I drive.

Well, shed certainly hit the 'engagement' social KPI this week.

I just sold a trio of sheds for a grand, was going to advertise them on here but found out it was £30 to put an advert up. Stuck them on gumtree for free and they sold within a week and had nearly 50 replies.

Thought they would make for an interesting shed of the week, two had mots and were driven home.

Edit, would be good if there was an option to post an advert for a week for a tenner.

Just so much no.

In fact not enough no’s in the world.

Just chop the roof off and turn it into a budget skip.

In the day I worked in weybridge, and there was Hyundai office there, which is probably where the biggest group of these so called cars were ever parked at one time. How sh** they looked then made me laugh - the fact that any of them have survived and that anyone thinks they are worth more than scrap amazes me today. I would rather walk everywhere than have that on the drive.

Get it into the banger circuit now and save a Ford.
It was KIA in Weybridge. Although the Magentis was just as unmemorable.
No it was an office on the industrial park near the racetrack.

What a great selection
Was talking with poster MX6 about his car yesterday so it’s a coincidence to see one on here
They were a quick car when new ( GT86 level of go ) with very good handling

I had one as a rental in Houston back in 2001 and if I recall it wasn't actually that bad. It was comfy, cruised well and seemed to have a decent amount of poke, although being in the U.S I imagine it will have a had a V6 engine.
I got one in San Jose around the same time when the Mustang I had actually hired had faulty brakes. I was annoyed because I wanted a Mustang, even a V6 one.
I turned out really liking the sonata. "Liking" being relative of course. It had zero driver involvement but nice soft suspension which suited the roads around there, including the potholed freeways in the Bay area.

People here are judging this car on how it looks. Yes it's ugly but that's not the point. Driving an SUV makes you look like a chav, yet plenty do so.

Quote.
to safeguard your investment spend a couple of hundred quid on some underseal. Mrs Shed can do you a good deal on that. She buys 100-gallon drums of it for watering-down into gravy and she’s usually willing to part with any out-of-date stuff that’s more than twenty years old.
End quote.

You are pushing your luck.

That is so ugly that you could simply put a Mercedes badge on it, and it would fit inconspicuously straight into their range.

As a shed, I would say that it is probably very good. It's cheap and fairly reliable.
I think I would wear a disguise if I owned it, though.

Almost top shedding!
Come on! Where's your aspiration?

Put an AMG badge on it.

No!No! Better still, put a Maybach badge on it biggrin
You have a good point. It be passed off as a Mercedes but you'll have to rub the paint of the inside of the wings, doors etc then go for s drive on the beach.
