Hi,

I’m looking for a tool chest on wheels. Budget £250/£300 if possible but will spend more if need to.

I heard that Halfords pro/industrial/advanced quality had going down recently. I have the advanced tools and I rate them.

Any recommendations most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I have the Halfords Advanced roll cab and middle chest. Middle chest I had to replace following purchase as a drawer runner was out of alignment and would foul the locking mechanism for the rest of the drawers. No issues changing and they come with three years warranty anyway. The old Industrial range was markedly superior but were rather overbuilt for the home mechanic. The Halfords Advanced range is fine.

You can get the roll cab from Halfords for less than £200 if you time it right between promotions and a trade card and/or using TopCashBack.

Edited to add: the 6 drawer roll cab is currently £228 with a trade card. I paid £184 for mine March last year plus £7.22 each back making it a pretty decent buy indeed. Since you already have Halfords Advanced tools you can also buy modular tray blanks to shift them into the drawers nice and neat.

Sadly, didn't get to stay in the living room for long!

I've got the same, US Pro set. Roller bottom, mid and top drawer set.

The drawers are ball bearing but feel a little bit thin gauge. For the money it's excellent.

Halfords when a sale is on is probably your best bet although the us pro offerings look very good too.
I bought the Halfords black industrial trio a few years back and am happy enough with it.
The drawers wind me up a bit with the lift up handle locking mechanism but otherwise happy.

I've got a big (it's tall enough I have to stand on tiptoes to see into the top compartment) stainless steel US Pro two-piece roller cabinet and it's pretty good. The drawers slide very smoothly and despite the bottoms feeling a bit thin and flexible, they have no problem holding anything I've tried to put in them. I even still have a few empty drawers having had the thing for five or six years, which is unheard of for me and tool storage. biggrin

Assuming their smaller ones are built the same, I think it's pretty much ideal for DIY levels of use.

Before I order, is this the US Pro set you are recommending. Seems very good value (too good?) at £119.99

Thanks

Looks like it. I got the tool chest to sit on top. This is extra , some of the pics look like it’s included.

I'd get the top chest as well - Both I think was £193 which is a bargain - it's surprising how quickly you fill up these things

I started with base and top but I've since added two more middle units
