If that LS400 was closer I'd be tempted to go have a look.
You'd be safe buying that unseen - olly is one of the basta bastions of the Thread and knows his onions when it comes to Lexi.
I recall reading about the work that just went into refurbing those fab DHP alloys.

I certainly would.
(Mind you, I've bought several barges unseen from different threadistes, for that is the way in which I roll. Word.)
Didn't realise it was a thread owners car!
I like that Lexus and it’s pedigree. If I wasn’t comfortably tucked up with my barge and mini barge I’d buy that. Barge value right there. Good luck with the sale olly.
I like it too, however it's just a bit too far for me (four/five hours without breaks) Would be a comfy ride home though.
It's really handsome and top marks for the gratuitous 'golden hour' shots.

I do like this shot, its very inviting and showcases the quality of materials used. Not having been too familiar with the LS, I'm impressed at 1) the seemingly-gummi pflegged rubber and 2) the rubber seal that runs continuously along the top of the doors:

However, the unclipped driver overmat makes my teeth itch. Why, oh Olly, Why?!

I have a particular fondness for these in white, as it is the colour of the example that I drove when in Cyprus. However, I am disappointed that there are no interior shots. In my mind, the ideal interior is blue checked cloth.

Made it to Poole in the nick of time but crikey the traffic was hideous. How does anyone live in the south? I was a tad reckless in the G and nearly restyled the rear end of a BMW X5 but heaved on enough steering to dodge it by a millimetre.

I’ll switch to my 463 thread to avoid further derailment.

It's close enough that it's worth a cheeky look, but I have been informed that it's all in good order.

I have driven down here too this evening to see my sister's new house, it's insanely busy this time of year onwards. When I lived here I spent half the time sat in traffic.

Possible barge purchase !!!!! Going from a million miles from nowhere at my normal address, i dropped in at Huddersfield this weekend for family and this came up as a local car!

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105283...

mot'd yesterday, overuse of the clean engine bay black stuff, not seen the bolster on the drivers seat - and , not merc serviced since 2015, just "local" - hmmm

spec looks a bit low - rear aircon + electric front seats, that seems to be it - although the wheels are upgraded to AMG.

Good luck, perhaps two Mercedes barges will join the thread this weekend!

Volume 19 has gone all millennial. 4 hours too far to buy a car. FFS man, get a one way train ticket in your pocket and the car on your drive.

What have you got planned for your weekend that's better?

Never one to wittingly derail a purchase, but if (as I suspect) your proposed 124 has a 4 cylinder engine, it’snt that very similar to your old w201? I could see the appeal if it were a six.

If I'm honest I sort of regret letting the 190e go. And now I keep seeing vintage Mercs. At this age I think condition is more important than engine. I'd also prefer a 6 but they just don't come up that often at this price point anymore.

Its decent spec....nav, parking sensors, memory heated seats, air suspension. All were options.

Give me a shout if a tidy Willow Green 260E that's been through a couple of other threadists before me could be of interest. Much lower mileage and just had its MOT but needs a new exhaust, despite MOT not mentioning it.

Air suspension was standard on the 500, possibly 4 zone climate was as well.

It seems decent, but the nav is a curiosity. The shark fin aerial was on the top of the rear screen for the first year before moving to the rear of the roof. This has neither, so would be worth checking the build sheet to see if it’s been added more recently, and then figuring out how it acquires the signal.

Think I spotted you rolling south on the A1, Friday late afternoon. Also spotted a deliciously peach coloured w107 this morning on the A68, iirc it's possibly owned by someone on here too?

Funny you should say that; I need to move mine on to make way for CdG’s Lexus, but I don’t really want to. I’ve done loads of work to it to make it a mechanically good example but I just don’t have time for managing a fleet at the moment.

I have these naughty thoughts in the back of my mind that once the LS is beyond service I’d take the driveline out (all alloy quad-cam V8 with VVT plus a 5 speed auto) and put it into something else...like an old Benz...like I already have... Annoyingly, whilst I already have a donner chassis, it’s not quite special enough for a ‘high days and holidays’ type vehicle (spec is a bit Spartan - no wind, skin, bum warmers etc), it’s a smidge small and actually the driving position is a bit odd for someone my height. I keep thinking w126 S-Class or a P38 Range Rover as possible alternatives instead.

I'm a sucker for an old Merc, I do love 'em.

If I had £3k burning a hole in my pocket and a yearning for a rwd V8, I wouldn't be........ ah, not my money.
Not my call.

(But - you should really try a Lexus. They look a bit jelly-mould pants. But they ru-hool, believe me.)

Definitely four-zone climate control, Stegel Sharp Eyes
