Agreed - I give the seller full marks for golden hour photos on grass, and the colour and the overall "look" of that one looks spot on (to my amateur eyes at least).

I also quite like this convertible on ebay too. It comes with original wheels.

However I really, really like not having the fking keys dangling down and jingliing annoyingly and, even worse, brushing or digging into my fking leg all the bding time what stupid motherfkers keep putting ignition switches there furiousfuriousfurious . Pet hate.
Why don't you just keep car and other key detritus separate? .
Cos I get to work 15 miles away from home and then realise I forgot the keys for the office. Guess how many times I have managed to do this during lockdown?

The best & worst part about the key for an early R129 is that it’s self-contained. There’s no hole to allow you to attach anything else to it. Some days I think it’s great, others, not so. However, in general, I hate having a bunch of keys that aren’t immediately useful clogging up my pocket - as i was a frequent flyer (those days appear to have gone), it was a PITA getting stopped on a regular basis at airport ‘security’. I de-cluttered my keys - I take only what I need when I go out - everything else lives in the glass bowl near the front door in readiness. (it’s alledgedly good for those parties too) - not that I have experience of such, mind, more’s the pity.

On a more relevant side to this - many US Ford cars have/had a set of buttons on the door that you could use a code on, for entry, a sort of emergency access code that could get you in the car. It looked crap, but was a good idea, IMO.

edit - forgot to add. If you do need to break a window, and you have a spark plug, a bit of the ceramic shield is excellent at breaking glass very easily! It’s the sort of thing you could duct-tape to the underside & retrive in an emergency - or you could wait 7h at the golf course for the AA like my mate did once having put the keys into the golf shoes while sitting on the boot lip to change them, and then shutting the boot. We absolutely, definitely, still don’t frequently remind him of that, 20+ years later. smile

It's quite a challenge locking keys in a modern car isn't it? I'd have thought that there was some sort of fancy gizzmology that detects that the key is inside the car and prevents you locking it? Obviously not
The newer keyless ones tend to have clever sensing to stop you locking them in, great bit of tech
What's not so clever with the modern keyless fob (but I don't know what the answer is) if the car is running, you get out and someone else gets into the driver's seat, in this case my wife, who then drives off whilst have the fob in my pocket...

Fortunately it was only half an hour's walk to where she had driven to.
The alternative, of cars cutting-out whenever they can't 'see' their keys would be killing people all over the place. Tough problem to completely beat, but I think they way they do it now is the only safe way.
Absolutely.

But surely a bong and alters saying keys out of range should be sufficient for driver to realise and turn round!

That's exactly what my Lexus does. If you get out of the car with the key you get a very musical reminder. Seems pretty foolproof to be honest.

Yep, same with mine. I'm not sure if it's possible to lock the key in the car in the Lexus? I'm pretty certain that it doesn't lock itself if the key is in the car. And even if it did, when you went to open it with the handle it'd detect the key being "nearby" and unlock the car anyway.....

Seems like a non-issue for keyless go, but possibly an issue with standard remote keys.

It isn't possible to lock it with the keys in but, as someone has pointed out, sometimes you get interference that can do funny things to gizmos, so I wouldn't want to rely entirely on the tech.

I had an unfortunate bump in a waitrose car park once. That's not a euphemism.

Trouble with those S classes, is that now the whole centre console / mid-dash vents asymmetry has been pointed out, I can’t un-see it.

Otherwise straight along with the cheque book, obvs

That's rather ungentlemanly. At 90 grand, it's desperately unwantable, despite the thuggish appearance and performance.
