I could believe

M366 TPU

Will end up with a fiver's worth of underseal all over those crusty bits
I don’t even think it will need it, I reckon the mot tester has been after this for years :-)

honestly in my never ending barge hunt, i've started looking at VITO/VIANOs instead of SUVs

I bought a Vito Traveliner back in March 2020 which then didn’t turn a wheel for a number of months. It is an 8-seater, which means two front seats and two rows of three seats. It is a standard wheelbase with a long body. The other versions are standard wheelbase with normal body and long wheelbase with extra long body. The seat mountings I have mean I can’t slide the seats; the Viano versions have runners that allow the seats to move. I believe it was an option for the Traveliner, but rarely taken. I’ve never felt short changed.

Over the last few weekends it has been to the seaside and all that entails, taken worktops to the other side of the country (elderly relatives and a kitchen makeover, it will take 2.7m flat on the floor, or 3m standing on their edge and nestled between the front seats), transport for a hen night (the indignity), it will be used as a wedding car and then back to elderly relatives for more stuff.

It is a 2.2 auto and trots along at motorway speeds quite happily. In the time I’ve had it, I’ve had the gearbox fluid changed hoping to cure a slightly jerky gear change when cold - it made not a jot of difference - and a small water leak from the egr cooler was also dealt with. Service intervals are supposed to be every 25,000 miles and it had been serviced shortly before I bought it. The VW Txx vans are definitely seen as ‘cooler’, however I’m at a stage in my life when that is not a factor for me. I bought it because it was local and it solved a man maths equation I had. I know it is stating the obvious, but I would suggest that values for all these types of vehicle have gone up since I bought this one.

Mrs HwC thinks it is fantastic and has all sorts of ideas for converting it. I’m far less enthusiastic for that, but will conceded that it has been tremendously useful and versatile. I can’t see us selling it anytime soon.
thanks for the input!

i used to have a renault traffic, part converted , but i'd swear never again - for some its fine, for us it was just too small - always bending the head and cramped sleeping - plus unless you soundproof it, you get a lot of external noise, just like a tent - basically with the size of it, we could have left it unconverted and bought a really nice tent and camping kitchen for a fraction of the cost, and kept the van as a rainy-day-van + windout awning for random stops along a holiday trip.

I've had a Toyota Alphard for nearly 3 years, they're a JDM 8 seater thing usually used as executive taxis (I'm told).
They're plentiful over here although most have a camper conversion.

They're not as big as a Viano but they can come with a fairly massive level of kit if you chose the right one - it's stuff that appears on JDM things about 10 years before Mercedes 'invent' it and make a huge splash about it while making sure they've engineered it to an inferior level to that which Toyota achieve smile
Mine recently transported a fully built up IKEA wardrobe without any trouble.

They come as a 2.4 4pot, 3 litre V6 and there's some sort of Hybrid that is also 4wd.

An older pic is in My Garage, interior is grey leather.

I'm out at the moment, so can add a bit more detail later.

At least the a/c works properly as I got that refurbed last year smile

The V10 has a brave new owner - I expect a forecourt shot at some stage and probably some swearing about the cost of Audi parts.....

So after purchasing wsurfa’s broken S6 earlier this month (surprisingly with no gravel tax) I decided that didn’t have enough cylinders or troublesome Audis, hence the purchase this morning shown below in it’s usual environment.

V8 Quattro Sport, Bose Sound, Sports Air Suspension, Tiptronic Steering Wheel, Phone Prep, Heated Seats and Folding Mirrors (that don’t fold). Controversially it drinks from the Devil’s pump.

88K £1900 from a great dealer in Sevenoaks, he’d obviously done that maths that I hadn’t.

It drives fantastically, but slowly, as it has a few issues. inlet manifold flaps being the main one, and a stuck inoperable MMI system, which was great on the (fuel included) trip home because it was sooo quiet.

Booked in with Dean at 4 Rings Dartford mid month to give me a full diagnosis wallet raping.

The D2 A8L 4.2 V8 Quattro (bought from this thread in March last year) is going to have to give up it’s Final Edition alloys and revert back to it’s hilarious 17” 5 spoke it came with pictured below in it’s unbarry’d state.

D2 giving up it’s 9 spokes to the new D3.

Not sure how I feel bout the original D3 alloys

As I've had a busy busy weekend away from the thread, making space for pending arrivals, I'll have to squeeze my Friday and catch-up in to the next 10mins, while I eat my breakfast and wait for the first Teams call of the day, by quoting this lovely picture of a red classic Mercedes...

Sort of thread related, my wife received a council ticket at the train station car park for the rear of our van being over the lines, but the spaces are so short she had no choice without blocking the path. Contesting that is another fun job I could do without when I have such a busy yet exciting week lined up.

A quick google suggests my T5 is shorter than something like an LS430, so I wonder if you barge owners have ever experience anything similar, or maybe she was just the victim an overzealous traffic warden? The tyres were not over any lines.
Go back park in the space take pictures and a video then email it all with the appeal to the appropriate jobsworth

Description is spot on, it's a lovely car mechanically with 'room for improvement' on the bodywork and occasional electronic quirks. Perfect family / dog car.
Nice to see it staying within thread. It's a lovely car, hopefully it serves you well.

I haven't checked the spec of this one but I know they CAN come with, for example, the left most seat in the middle row being fully electric to the extent that it'll pivot out of the car and down to the pavement.
Also active radar cruise on early 2000s models and stuff like that.

Not to mention a nice Japanese lady talking to you (in Japanese) at random moments if you keep the original head unit, which is also, helpfully, in Japanese

I like the Alphard too. 'Horn' might be over-doing it at the best of times, but the lack of a green LED clock would be a flaccid-maker for me.

That minor disappointment aside, there is much to like there and I can see the appeal.

Which is why the VW vans are so popular. VW seem to have the knack of designing really well proportioned, cool vehicles with a perceived quality that in reality is quite often only surface deep. They are still living off their 1970s and 80s reputation, but people still love them.

I only ended up with a T5 Caravelle Executive by accident as my bro was selling it for a price I couldn't refuse. With four kids to ferry about he raved about it, so having the same I thought why not give it a go, and both my wife and I love it as a family battle-wagon, leaving the XC90 pretty redundant during these covid times.

Mine is 15 years old with 155k mile son the clock - if I wanted to replace it with a new one they start at £56k RRP! I'm not sure what justifies the price over a standard transporter - seems a lot of money for some fancy seats and sound deadening.

The "G" on the rear should mean that one is higher spec model (if it follows the same levels as Crown's). The Japanese lady should tell you the date and time and then yell at you for not having an ETC card (Japanese motorway toll card), also at special occasions she'll say other messages like "Merry Christmas" and "Have a great new year" smile Engines will be shared with various Lexus models so services/parts is easy and it is unlikely to shat itself tongue out

Regular Alphard's can be had with the same 3.5V6 my Crown has... so expect a 6 second 0-62 giving a chance to do things like this to the hoi-polloi wink

The early examples are relatively painless on the eye in comparison to the current model - available with some interesting “I never realised I needed that” features though…

Mine is a 2002 G model with the 3 litre, so with 220BHP and only 2 seats (those seats are damn heavy) it's quite nippy - it certainly gives tailgaters a surprise coming out of a 30 zone smile
Since it's so old the fripperies are limited to front facing camera, lane departure assistant and 3 mode dampers (that still work as intended!).

'My' Japanese lady has been telling me something different since I started using one of those FM transmitters to play music from my phone.

From the handbook I got - our friends in New Zealanders have done a full translation due to the Alphard being a popular buy there - it appears mine could've been specced with the fancy seat as shown in Voxy's pictures but only if the first owner wasn't so tight.

CDG's disappointment about the clock may be partially offset by the green lights on the heating/aircon buttons...

If you wanted to work out what she says exactly then the googletranslate app can translate through the microphone. I do love all the bits and pieces on Japanese cars, my Crown has lights that come on and twist when you turn the wheel (a-la Citroen DS) along with the suspension and gearbox modes smile

Voxy you could always get it with a factory bodykit... though that odd extra mirror is still present confused

Modellista are a company I didn't know existed until an incident with the Crown and found the originally owner paid a fairly substantial sum for a kit to be fitted... and that only 2% of my shape Crown have them fitted... a replacement was hard to find frown
