Yes, it's definitely real. But surely one of the inspirations for David Brent. I'd say it pre-dates the modern mockumentary trend by a long way, and the other episodes weren't as sad/funny as the company car one.
If you like his work, Martin Parr photographed a wonderful accompanying book.https://www.martinparr.com/books/#gallery/8__29778...

Comedy of manners, witty, cerebral form of dramatic comedy that depicts and often satirizes the manners and affectations of a contemporary society
So that means it ain't real innit?ETA: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1066285.From_A...

I could be persuaded that it was filmed/edited with a satirical brief but that the subjects were completely genuine and unaware.
It’s absolute genius either way!

Fellow X350 barge owners, how have you found maintenance to be? I understand the main culprits are the expensive suspension struts (£900 each from Jaguar) Although I understand there are alternative options available.
I've done a bit of homework prior to purchase and compared to the equivalent BMW/Mercedes they seem very reasonable. Time will tell but I'm loving my XJ6 so far.
I also think my gearbox sensation is possibly normal. The early X350 torque converters were programmed with a vehicle warm up phase that does include a fluttering sensation that improves somewhat after 15/20 miles. I did a 32 mile drive last night and by the 20 mile mark I could hardly feel it, and that was all around the hilly Dorset countryside. Regardless gearbox oil and filter change plus adaptions booked in for the end of the month. And I'm going to get the fuel straps replaced too.
I had an XJR for about a year. Had a few things that I had to remedy, new valve block and compressor as kept playing up. Fuel straps, battery, a couple of ball joints etc.I've done a bit of homework prior to purchase and compared to the equivalent BMW/Mercedes they seem very reasonable. The biggest expense was the corrosion. Sure they don't rust per se, but they certainly corrode, the difference with aluminum it just doesn't spread like steel. Would be surprised if your XJ6 has never had paint. Not all bodyshops in my experience will work on them either.
Had to replace an 02 sensor as well. Having said all of that, was a bloody fantastic car. So quiet comfortable and quick, do miss it. But sold on to the parish here.
Latest offering from Shilly McShill.
Despite the complete lack of description (aside from three full stops) I can actually well believe the number of bids.
Just look at it! Seriously impressive prep.

He normally bangs the car up as soon as he's got it ready and often with no description. I'm sure in a day or so he'll complement that with 50 hi res pics and a few pages of detail including the inside leg measurement of the guy that PDI'd it 20 years ago. The car though is in astonishing nick considering it's done 150k miles. MOT is clean - pretty safe to bid on it I'd imagine as absolutely all of his cars are in this condition. Pity it hasn't got leather but it's got air con and the minimum number of cylinders required for Barge entry.
Is Nick Froome, w124.com or .co, still dealing? I think I recall reading that he'd stopped due to these cars being such high mileage and needing work now, but I'm not sure where I saw that. What's he up to now, anyone know?
He used to post here as Bolide, and always signed his posts anyway, but I've not noticed him for a while.

First drive on the motorway in the LS460 today since having the wheel bearing replaced.
All I can say is that the wheel bearing must have been grumbling a little for some time. The car is really quiet now. On smooth roads the only thing you can hear is a little wind noise around the tops of the doors and that's it, it's definitely whisper quiet at 100.
Those are the most satisfying fixes - ones which have gradually crept up on you. Was it a cheap fix? I seem to remember doing wheel bearings on my LS400 was quite pricy and my The Man swore he would not do them on another LS400!All I can say is that the wheel bearing must have been grumbling a little for some time. God, it be hilarious if Shilly McShill was secretly a threadiste.
A handsome looking 124, regardless. Where does this supply of extremely tidy looking Benz come from?
I’ve thought the same!A handsome looking 124, regardless. Where does this supply of extremely tidy looking Benz come from?
Also, as remarkable as his source of stock I’d love to know who preps the cars. We know he whacks the contrast up to the max to make those interiors look double fresh, however there’s no doubting the finish on the paint and bodywork. If nothing else it also demonstrates how well Merc of this era can wear their miles/age.

We must have read the same thread as I too remember seeing this - quite recently too. He said he couldn't source good cars but I think he specialised in the estates which always lead a harder life and the chances of finding good ones is getting understandably vanishingly small. He used to post here as Bolide, and always signed his posts anyway, but I've not noticed him for a while.
