If I was in the market for something like this I would absolutely give it a chance. Its certainly prettier than anything Lexus offers and it will be built beautifully and probably go on forever. Nice to see some competition for the German marques who are resting on their laurels these days.

Predictably derivative design but actually looks okay.

If they did an appearance package suited to more refined tastes I think it would work quite nicely. ie smaller wheels in matte alloy / grey / black finish. De chromed window trims / grille etc.
LOL!

In a world of big, horrible over styled SUVs, this one isn’t that bad. At least it’s something different and isn’t from one of the big 3 German brands.

Saw a black one of these today. Looks expensive in the flesh, very Bentayga-esque. Not bad actually.

Apart from the front number plate which is the worst positioning of one on any car I've ever seen - stands out like dogs balls.

Was the car 'reviewed' or actually driven? I can never quite tell with these Pistonhead articles...the journo doesn't seem to have actually driven the thing.

£74K as tested...that's 6 large from a used Bentayga...I know, I know, I shouldn't.

I think it's fairly obvious that it was driven, if you read it? It talks about ride quality as well as how the engine and performance feels compared to rivals.

I've read it, twice, and it certainly seems that the car has not been driven, a review from the desk or armchair. He says 'though the drive mode dial felt insubstantial and the knurled selector for the infotainment could probably be better done' and that seems to be the only indication that he has physically touched the car. Other than that, it's the kind of vague and generic write up you can actually do by just 'imagining' what it would feel like to drive, from the comfort of your sofa, with a packet of crisps.

I'm not sure where you're coming from, this section of paragraphs refer to the driving of the car do they not?

"Driving in a fashion recognisable from the G80 - noticing the theme? - probably suits the GV's remit more comfortably. Where you might reasonably want some driving satisfaction from a 300hp, petrol saloon, the job of the diesel SUV is abundantly clear: move lots of people, including the one behind the wheel, quickly and effortlessly to the next destination. Those that can do that and deliver some reward deserve praise - Jaguar and Land Rover, most notably - but it feels less of a concern here than anywhere else.

The V6 diesel fits here as well as the four-cylinder petrol felt a bit incongruous in the G80. Maximum torque is there from 1,500rpm, the six-cylinder soundtrack feels more appropriate, and the automatic gearbox is less prone to hunting around with deeper reserves to draw on. If not the fastest - an X5 M40d has another 62hp, and 83lb ft - then GV80 performance always feels just about strong enough.

Moreover, that ability to maintain almost complete calm on any surface complements the GV80 and the diesel engine really nicely. Sure, the Genesis doesn't change direction like a field mouse or connect the driver like a sports car - though grip is high - but who really cares in something this big? Everything the driver interacts with is accurate enough to build confidence, meaning you can sit back in a wonderful seat and relax as the world goes about its business and the miles pass by. Comfy without being lazy and capable without being unduly taut (though one inch off the biggest wheel might be advisable again), the GV80 is a nice way to travel. The Genesis isn't Bentley quality for half the price, no, but it is satisfying in its own discrete, reserved way. With the way that both car and company do business - operating with least hassle possible for the owner - it's easy to imagine a GV80 slotting seamlessly and successfully into family life."

It's not that much wider than my car and it's not as long. I don't find it much of a problem, certainly with the cameras etc, but you personally struggle with reverse parking I could see how you may find this difficult.

Putting a new brand in the market in a very busy SUV segment at the unfortunate back end of the ICE era, I wonder why not spend your marketing dollars on introducing an EV well ahead of its rivals for a competitive price

It's 2cm longer than an X5 and 3cm narrower.

How is it a knock off when the same person designed both cars?! LOL

Also, Chinese? You may want to take some primary school geography lessons.
That’s why I said like a Chinese… like! My geography is fine unlike your grasp of phrasing. One assumes Bentley budget is higher allowing designer free choice as opposed to limitations on this!
Why would it be a limitation? There is no doubt that China will be the main market for this outside of Korea and then possibly the US next down on the list, It will be designed for local tastes. The UK market for this car is totally insignificant as they know they will sell 5
The limitation relates to production costs, not development budget. There will be elements of styling inside and out on a £130k Bentayga which are too pricey to make for a £60k GV80. Ironically, I actually prefer the GV80.

I got what you meant with the Chinese comment, BTW, I think your humour went over some heads.

It's not exactly pretty is it? Then again, it's no less gopping than the Discovery 'Fat-Arse Five' I suppose.

And at least the number plate is in the right place...
