RE: Vauxhall Vectra VXR estate | The Brave Pill
Discussion
The comments are exactly what you would expect, but the price doesn't seem that outlandish for a VXR. As someone else said, evo ran one for a while and spoke very highly of it. I remember a friend having a Vectra C (albeit a diesel) and it was noticeably more refined than a MK3 Mondeo, albeit not as good to drive.
The timing chains can be an issue on these, and it's an expensive fix, and I'm not sure if they suffer the same gearbox issues of a lot of Vauxhalls of this vintage?
It's not something I would buy personally but, if you like a fast Vauxhall, I don't think I would begrudge anyone having one. It's more interesting than a lot of other stuff out there. The interior hasn't aged that well, but there's still a lot to like.

Biggest brave pill for the prospective new owner is telling his mates he's paid 6k for a 13 year old mildly quick Vectra.....but it is VXR, really.

Not a bad Shed of The Week....oh.
I have to say I don't remember there being an estate version of these.
It isn't ever going to be a desirable classic though is it? Too obscure and not well liked as a brand or model. There might be the odd enthusiast about, but it is a hard sell at that price and with really awful wheels!

Always fancied an ST200 Vectra with the APs and LSD - always pick that over the Mondeo
I thought the ST200 was a Mondeo?Most people do
The car enthusiasts will know though!
Those that know, know..

Its not wildly priced at all - given similar VXRs on AT with double the miles for only a smidge cheaper and similar (and marginally higher) upto £1k more.
Not shocked at the scorn for a vauxhall here though - the derision for the brand is constant.
As a household we at one point had his and hers VXRs (Astra and Corsa) and they were great.
The Vectra VXR is massively rare for a real one, yes this would be more desirable with the correct wheels but they arent a bad steer at all.
I've had a few, all older Vauxhalls though, so certainly not against the brand. Not shocked at the scorn for a vauxhall here though - the derision for the brand is constant.

I just can't get on with the newer ones.

My dad had a SuperTouring (traded a Sapphy cosworth for it) and was quite into car shows and the “scene” and I’ve never once heard it referred to as an “ST”
Really, I’ve quite often heard them referred to as ST200s both on Migweb and the Vectra board Certainly if you refer to them as an ST200 they will know what you mean. Indeed it does stand for Super Touring, just as the Ford ST stands for Sport Technologies or RS stands for Rallye Sport - a lot of people shorten it though
What’s in a name eh!
