I don't like them, and they seem to appeal to a certain type.

Though on the other hand, having spent the money on them, people do actually put them on their car rather than wedging then between the dashboard and windscreen, and having the raised letters means they aren't so easy to put tint film over.

Plus the font is usually legible and currently spaced.

So, while they seem to be in the category of number plates preferred by dicks, they're the least dickish variant.
But the thing is, the font is overly bold, characters are crammed together and from certain angles the numberplate therefore becomes completely illegible. As has been discussed, other countries seem to have one standard by which everyone abides. Here there are just so many options and it's something customisable.

Jeez they literally are everywhere, even on the most ordinary of cars. They look horrendous. It screams of 'desperate to improve my car but I don't know how'!

At least so it seems, they're on their way to being banned...thankfully.
Why are you thankful though? It doesn’t actually affect you in any discernible way at all. And why would the motive for having them be of any interest to you?

Its a good throbber label.

Tells me who to steer clear of on the road and when buying a car.

A discrete way of revealing to all and sundry what a throbsocket you are.

My daughters bf has them on his car and I asked them to explain what makes them 4d, he said it’s because they are raised up, I pointed out that’s 3D and please explain what makes them 4d. He just looked at me blankly

4D because "3D" means the letters which are graphics made to appear like they're bevelled not just flat black.

Both are total piles of crap.

It’s a stupid name. 3D plates are 2D with the illusion of 3D effect. 4D uses 3D letters.

I don’t think that’s right at all, 3D is

1 width
2 breadth
3 depth

What’s the 4th dimension, google explains below, if your Einstein anyway. Time possibly

No, electro is correct.

"3D" plates are just images of letters stylised to look 3D.

"4D" plates actually are 3D letters.

Yes, it's stupid.

Latest theory apparently is that the 4th dimension is not time, but something else that we can’t experience through our physical senses. No one can really explain what it is though, not even scientists in white coats with pens in their top pockets.

All we know for sure is it’s something very “special”.

Can we not just agree that in this context 4D is just marketing bullst because in terms of numberplates 3D had already been taken 20 years earlier

I saw them advertised on Facebook, where someone asked "what makes them 4d?".. Not sure if it was a serious question, by the seller came back telling them its just their marketing term..

5D letters will be out soon. It involves removing the plate entirely, and hanging individual letters from the mounting holes, so they dangle across the bumper grille....

6d will do away with all that entirely, holographic images projected onto a panel :-)

Taken from that exceptionally well designed web page...

Not a sister business to the Scottish Chinese lass who leased cars is it?

I will have to send that image to my local university so they can update their maths degree course. I'm sure they'll be pleased to learn what 4d and 5d really mean.

4x posts from you on this one number plate thread alone insisting that 'Other people' are obsessed over THEIR opinion of number plates.

Are you sure you don't just have an issue with other people not liking the same things as you?
