Festival of Speed green lit as pilot event

Events Research Programme status means Goodwood sell-out is still a go for July

During the strangest of all summers last year, the missing Goodwood events were a real loss. There really is nothing virtual that can replicate the sights and sounds of a great motorsport event. So it's a real pleasure to confirm that the 2021 Festival of Speed has been given the go ahead, and will open as planned from July 8th-11th.

It's being run as part of the government's Events Research Programme scheme, which is attempting to open more festivals and similar occasions ahead of a full-scale change in social distancing rules. It means that everyone with a ticket to Goodwood over the weekend - rolled over tickets from 2020 mean Friday, Saturday and Sunday are sold out - will be able to attend, as long as they comply with ERP conditions. Right now, these include having had two vaccine jabs at least two weeks before the event, or proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test within 48 hours of attending - further details are to follow.

As for the event itself, Goodwood is going ahead with a 'Maestros' theme for Festival of Speed; not BL's finest - what a festival that would be - but rather the all-rounders of motorsport, those who've turned their hand successfully to all kinds of competition. That will be alongside a Future Lab, Central Feature celebrating Lotus and Goodwood Action Sports.

Those who have a ticket will be contacted by Goodwood over the coming days about how the Festival of Speed will go ahead as a pilot event and the rules they will be required to abide by. While 2021 might not be quite the Goodwood garden party we've become used to since 1993, just having one back will sound like more than good enough news to many. Only a couple of weeks left to wait...

Will tickets be re-allocated to others if you cannot meet the new criteria?

Poor Charles March, he must be incandescent! This is a total fiasco! Brilliant that FoS is cleared to go ahead, but really?!
The Gov has lost it's way totally and really messing up peoples lives and livelihoods.
We are all grown up enough to make decisions for ourselves now surely? Anyway roll on FoS, looking forward to it.

With a idiotic comment like that you’re certainly not “grown up enough to make decisions yourself”. It’s a pandemic for gods sake and people are still dying. People who put holidays and mass gatherings ahead of the health of and risk to others is selfish beyond belief, FoS or not!

Lol less than 10 covid deaths per day UK wide, why are we even hearing about it vs other unseen deaths so much higher.

Best thing is that idiots like him won’t be able to leave the country or attend any events as I can see this being the immediate future.

It’s not about the now, it’s about avoiding a return to where we were 3-4 months ago with our health service completely overwhelmed and hundreds dying every day.

But as you’re a simple guy you obviously needed that explaining to you.

Lol

Brilliant news but the big question for me is will they let in under 16s? Ascot didn't under the same Event Research Program scheme. I'm going with my 11 y/o son.

Doesn't this mean that, unless you were in the various categories, there won't be anyone under 40 there?

What's your criteria for sports/motor sports operating as they did in 2019 ?
