When I first saw this article at 00.15 hours I’d been unable to sleep. Which May account for why on first glance I thought it was one of those tasteless things built by Cadillac, and with a value of ‘three bob and a conker’.
Looking at it again, now fully awake, I still stand by the above: the decimal place has obviously been put in the wrong place and even at €7950 it’s too expensive…
Idiotic last sentence. Fantastic thing, if you can afford it then why not. Looking at it again, now fully awake, I still stand by the above: the decimal place has obviously been put in the wrong place and even at €7950 it’s too expensive…
And I apologise that I offended your sensibilities, 300-odd posts and you’ve become the arbiter of sense and reason: fantastic….!
I think this is quite an elegant machine, certainly compared with the saloon version, which looks like a more vulger S Class. I'm sure this is a brilliant thing to drive on a cross continental (motorway) slog.
At a glance, it looks like ten grands worth of leggy 2008 CL 500, but uglier.
700 grand, unless in a "Brewsters Millions" type scenario, no thanks.
Not sure who would buy that, the saloon versions dont seem to be that prized, very rich folk would probably buy something else that isn't a ten year old modified version of the same. Is there some value in the conversion that makes it look like a CL ?
Every other Maybach seems to hang round looking a bit sorry for itself at 40 odd grand, destined to end up as wedding cars, the new Silver Shadow maybe ? Just not sure who would buy one now the original very wealthy first owners have moved on.
Don't think they get namechecked in songs any more, the lustre didnt last long with the Maybach thing unless I am missing something. They didnt look great when they came out and now they just look like a bigger uglier S class, a Bentley Mulsanne still carries gravitas despite not exactly being pretty either, a Rolls Phantom still looks pretty regal.

Well, obviously the price is silly, but I really like that.
"So baby pull me over in the back seat of your Rover that I know you can't afford"
is actually about a badly faded Rover 2000 SD1 with all the panels a different shade of red and, before they shortened it, was actually:
"So baby pull me over in the back seat of your Rover that I know you can't afford to get through the MOT as all the sills are rotten, the electrics are playing up and the head gasket's blown."

Most rappers now seem to be name-checking "Rovers". I assume they mean Range Rovers but I do gain amusement by assuming that the line in Closer by The Chainsmokers that says:"So baby pull me over in the back seat of your Rover that I know you can't afford"

That's going to be fun opening the door in a multi-storey carpark and trying to a) get out and b) avoid dinging the car next to you!
I suspect the coupe still has more rear legroom than an S-class Merc, they've just made it a lot less accessible. Looks like it has the same wheelbase as the donor car.
I suspect if you're parting with nigh-on 800,000 euros for a car, you probably don't have to worry about car parking! I suspect the coupe still has more rear legroom than an S-class Merc, they've just made it a lot less accessible. Looks like it has the same wheelbase as the donor car.
That's a bit of a bizarre thing, a limo converted to a two door coupe doesn't seem to make that much sence conceptually. There can't be too many CEO's who want to fold the front seat foward to get in and out of the back, and it not really your typical drivers car either with that much body to haul around, though it would be interesting to have a go. Saying this I actually really like the look of it though, very unusual to see such a long wheelbase two door coupe, it's cool in my book.
That asking price isn't so cool though, seems to have a zero too many there, not sure who buys it at that money. It's starting to look a bit dated so is no longer the lastest and greatest, you'd really have to have a thing for unusual luxury cars and deep pockets.

Saw this prototype (was it a prototype, not sure) go up the hill at the FoS. It certainly head an impressive footprint and appearance. Was awesome to see and hear it.
Not sure if this is exactly the same as the one for sale. I do think the money is crazy, but what an amazing car it was, even at FoS it stood out.

As with everything, whether the car is fantastic or not is subjective, and the only person who can fairly judge the value of the car to them is the person who is prepared to part with their hard earned cash.

It's a lot money for sure and exactly how finite is the market going to be? Cost more new though I think? It does highlight to me where Bugatti have got it so right in having simple, but timeless, interiors which are hard to date from a technological standpoint. I'm not sure this would appeal to me as a car to use right now simply because being a few generations behind is being nowhere at all when it comes to these technical tour de forces. I do like the styling though but I'd want slightly less fussy, and possibly slightly more aggressive, wheels on it though.

This is worthy of a long slow facepalm. I’m lost with this website, not thinking this for the first time either. How have these thoughts happened inside someone’s mind?Looking at it again, now fully awake, I still stand by the above: the decimal place has obviously been put in the wrong place and even at €7950 it’s too expensive…
He has an opinion, as he is allowed and encouraged to on PH.
You may or may not agree with his opinion; unlike him I quite like the looks but I agree with him the price is hilarious.
That's my opinion. If you don't like someone having a different opinion to you I suggest you leave the forum to avoid upsetting yourself further.

Compared to the equivalent Rolls it is OK - just that in my mind, OK and so for the me seems rather bad value as the Rolls may be the better bet. To command what is even today a premium over the Rolls it would have to be utterly fabulous.
For me the core design language of the Maybach was always deeply flawed, lacking in every way elegance and looking like a stretched S, so being easily to my mind outclassed by the Rolls, while I also found the extra height of the rear of the Phantom and the more clubbable atmosphere gave a greater feeling of space and tranquillity.
But it was always the rear of the Maybach that was seen as its party piece, here was the great differentiator with the 'first class airline' style experience on offer. This coupe removes the one thing that people did say was better (if you liked it that way) and so for me this car loses the one USP that the Maybach had.
