Hi, I recently had an accident and as a result need to scrap my car off.

I have lost my log book but it suddenly dawned on me that when I moved 6 months ago I forgot to update the Dvla with the new address 😕.

Realising my error I have sent them a V62 form to update my address and request a new copy, with Covid and the Dvla on strike I have now been waiting over a month for the Dvla to process a replacement which shows no sign of arrival.

I understand you can scrap the car without the logbook? I am more worried that as my address has changed this will complicate issues with the scrap yard but also the Dvla when I notify them. Any advice would be very welcome.

Yes, I understand you can scrap a car with no logbook at an approved premises.

Thanks for the reply, will the scrap yard ask for the address that the car is registered at and want to send the certificate of destruction to that address?

I updated all my ID with the new address so that would also not match the registered car address.

Once I have the certificate of destruction, I assume I can send this to the Dvla and they would be no wiser regarding the address change.

This sounds more dodgy than a dodgy thing!

It probably does sound dodgy, it more a case of me not remembering to update the log book address and now in this awkward situation. Unfortunately the Dvla seem uncontactable.

Contact the people in your old address and send them some pre-addressed and stamped envelopes to send you on any Brown envelope post that they receive - just in case it goes there.

You might even find out some other organisations still have the old address..

You don't need a log ook and you can get a certificate of destruction sent by email.

Address is irrelevant. Use car take back. You will just need ID.
