I’ve noticed a few Nissan qashqai’s have dipped into shed territory, anyone have any ideas about the 1.5dci? Worth a chance or would you run a mile?
Rust, bodywork looks ok from above, underneath a potential moneypit.
Yeh the mk1 notorious for rusting, and the tail gate handles falling out biggrin

Got offered one while looking at an insignia. Mot said the chassis had fractured, then an unsafe modification then a pass yikes

Might be a thing of these age nissans, I worked with a bloke who took his navara in for a vibrating noise. Again, snapped chassis.

Procrastination incoming!

So, sheddy V50 failed its MOT today... which wasn't a surprise as the handbrake is crap but having gone off to rectify that previously, the caliper carrier bolts refused to play and turned into cheese. So that will require some brutality to get them out, but I'll cross that bridge in due course and wanted it MOT tested to get the full picture before I go further.

Couple of lower front arms (ball joints have lift and rear bushes aren't clever)
Front drop link has a split in the boot
Both rear springs have cracked (again!)
Hand brake is crap, but we knew that.

Few cursory advises for a front discs looking a bit crusty (no surprise given it's done 1300 miles since it's last test) and a bit general corrosion here and there but nowt to worry about and it'll need the rear bushes doing at some point, but at 1300 miles a year they'll likely outlast the disolving chassis.

Immediately I went in to man maths mode... and given I have this, that barely sees use but is incredibly handy on the rare occasions its needed and I also have an old 850 that rarely moves but is too nice to use and abuse in place of the V50, but not nice enough to be a tart and live under the cover in the garage. So realistically two needs to become one and a Legacy Spec B is top of the list.

I did debate just scrapping the V50, saving the time and money to fix it... but scrap is £320 and say £500 for repairs so there's £800, give or take. Then, with it away I'd be forced to use the old 850. Or more importantly... she'd be forced to use the old 850 and just no, nope. Plus the 850 holds way way more value. So, I think for the 6th year running the V50 gets a stay of execution and it's worth fixing - it's all just bolt on bits, a weekends work and all that. Then, sell the 850 and bank the money and hunt for a decent replacement, then once sourced sell the V50 for say £1500 (?) and we'll all live happily ever after.

In theory... but I have had half a can of beer so you know...

You have to be careful after half a can, rash decisions can be made which are regrettable afterwards, we've all done it.

How much did they charge if you don't mind me asking. I drive past there daily but never thought of them before having a very cheap system fitted to my 106 that sounds like it's blowing primarily because its a cheap pattern system that doesn't really fit properly!
Sorry chap missed this. I recall it being under 300 quid, however it was around 2009 so I suspect they'll have gone up a bit since. That was for a full cat back system from memory.

Worth stopping in as I remember the guy being really easy to deal with and wouldn't sell you anything you don't need.

in the summer, i'm going to try and sort the undiagnosed leak from somewhere, sound deaden it, strip the interior and reinstall some carpets. Obviously i'm going to do all this as cheaply as humanly possible, but i've become quite attached to the thing
Worth checking the door and windscreen seals - it sounds like a similar issue to my AX (unsurprisingly...). My carpets were dripping (water coming down from by the glove compartment) and destroyed the underlay.
I used Dodomat self adhesive stuff as a replacement which wasn't expensive and quietened things down a bit.

Good luck!

Yes, thats where most of the water was coming from on the passenger side. Never did figure out why but it seems to have stopped on the passenger side for the most part, its just the drivers side now.

Can you still get new seals?

Cheers!

Sheddy V50 dodges another bullet for another year and in the process racked up its biggest spend to date and yet secretly, I'm quite pleased despite my proclamation that this was the end etc etc...

It's had...

Two front lower arms
OSF coil spring (used, but "as new")
Front drop links
Front brake pads
Front discs (used, but "as new")
Both handbrake cables
Rear calipers
Rear discs and pads
Rear springs

Can't but help think the lack of use over the past year (~1300 miles) has been a driving force behind most of that - discs were corroded, caliper seized, handbrake cable fraying and springs snapped. Though the latter may have been after it was used as a rudimentary tipper lorry to move several tons of soil and slabs.

Not to worry, it's back driving well again and I think will get used a bit more moving forwards... give the main car a break and a chance to administer some well overdue TLC on it too.

Never ends!

Yes, lack of use isn't a good thing for sure.

Yes, they’re not branded as Peugeot/Citroen specific, but there are sellers online who will sell it by the meter. If you pull your existing seal off and view and measure the cross section, you should be able to find a match.
It does make closing the door trickier with a new seal though as you realise how flattened the old ones had become!

Another 700 miles over the past 2 weeks on the Vecshed, 200 miles just today alone, nice way to start the week off!

Still trundling along quite happily, averaging around 45mpg @ 70mph cruise, another 180 miles on Wednesday, and then up to Scotland next week and back, certainly earning it's keep biggrin

Certainly getting more knocky underneath now, it's booked in for a service in April when it gets some downtime, so will have a look on the ramp....it's really hammering these miles at the moment.

...and it's dirty again, didn't last long clean!

I enjoy your ongoing procrastination over the V50 shed. I've been following it on here now for at least a year, and possibly 2, when you first started asking for advice as to what to do with it (and then ignoring it anyway). It's such a typical way of running an older car, with little value, and not much used.
Anyway, it sounds like you have made a decision now to keep. Which means the injectors and DMF are about to fail in short order. rofl

Might be back in shed territory soon. My eldery mum has just moved house into the local town and doesn't need a car now. She hates driving anyway but doesn't want to give up her licence just yet. Therefore this has been dumped on my drive, and I think she will just give it to me at some point.

91k Honda Jazz 1.4, lots of goodies inside (pano roof / aircon / cruise) painfully slow though. Its got lots of battle scars, but serviced every year and minty inside.

Reliable, practical, and its quite nice just pottering along.
