That's awful. Sorry to hear that Bearman. Such a terrible thing to have happened. Poor chap.

may have slightly over egged the pudding.

In an effort to combat the feelings, I brought a project motorcycle. I fixed it. I rode it. It was too slow and I was scared of it being stolen, but Ive kept it going and brought another faster project motorcycle, it works but I don't like it but it's on the road. Both of these will cost more to get rid of than keep . Bugger.

I brought a newer car than I had.nothing wrong with the car I had, just wanted a change , more modern. The modern one broke. I moved it on and lost some money. Bugger.

I brought a replacement that was older than my original car, it works, but really I should brought one with a towbar for householdy type stuff, I've still got it on the road, But I really wanted a towbar, so I brought a cheap car with one on to run along side the other one. It broke and cost money to put right. Bugger.

I'm now left with a fleet of 4 vehicles that kind of work as whole but cost a fortune between them and it's gonna cost money to consolidate down to one vehicle.Bugger.

Great result and worth the effort you put in prior biggrin
I'm pretty sure the Clutch thrust bearing is fked. Might not be that so I'll drop it back as the garage and get them to sort it. Daughter isn't back from Asia until August so no rush. But I want to use it for commuting.

That is horrible Bearman…

Got my car back £360 for cambelt, aux belt, tensioners and water pump. This is on a 2008 Audi a3 2.0tdi. Pretty fair price I think?

That was a tough read and I can understand why it's had a profound affect on you - not only the tragic circumstances involving a person you knew but sadly it makes you quite angry and resentful towards society knowing that somebody has paid the ultimate price for being a decent human being and trying to help somebody in need. Sadly, situations like this do make you reconsider your own actions, ie to be reluctant to assist others for fear of repercussions and that's just wrong. The world in which we live is not a particularly pleasant place to be anymore.

Take it easy squire.

On the shed front, the search for a new shed to replace my sisters current shed has fizzled out and instead, current shed has been away getting track rod ends and drop links plus alignment and is all the better for it and the cold start issues / crappy running, well we'll just kick that under the rug for another few weeks and pretend it doesn't exist

You sound like HubNut! I spent a completely unshed like £4K on my current car two years ago, but for that I got something half decent that I actually quite like and am quite happy to look after. It doesn't strictly follow the criteria of this thread as it was too expensive, but to me it is still a shed as I paid cash, never worry about where I park it and if it died tomorrow or someone wrote it off I would just shrug my shoulders and get straight on eBay for another car.

I am OCD about my things so I hoover it once a week and actually purchased a genuine set of mats for it. The rear beam is looking a bit rusty so my plan in the summer is to put it on axle stands, clean off the rust with a wire wheel and paint it. Again unshed like behaviour, but worth looking after as it will save me grief in the future.

It's currently 13 years old with 67K on the clock, I think if I look after it I could easily get years of use out of it. Also in the two years I have had it I have had to fit one CV gator and that was only an advisory.

I think it is a massive false economy buying something cheap and knackered and then having to spend loads of money on it. The only time I would ever do this is if I had owned the car for years and it was a known entity.

How is that so cheap? Should be nearer the £1k mark, surely?

I paid about £600 for a cambelt on a 1.8T Audi A6 20 years ago, that seems very cheap

Give over, £360 is about right from a indy, the bits aren't made out of unobtainium smile

I paid slightly more for similar to my 2018 2.0tdi SEAT, cambelt kit was £180 and three hours labour.

Haha, yeah well I guess it's the 3-4 hours of labour at whatever rate is being charged. I paid about £900 for my old TT.

I took it a small back street garage my family have known him for years. No stamp, no receipt but he wrote full timing belt fitted @226180 with a paint pen under the bonnet! I filled the service book in for my records.

No real proof if I want to sell the car. But at this price point I don’t think it matters anyway. Hopefully I can get it to 300k now!

Vecshed is still pounding on, jubilee clip shedfix on the wiper linkage failed eventually, purchased some new linkages and fitted them at the weekend, so that's done - did break the plastic brittle, scuttle panel under the windscreen, but I really don't care.

Had to top up the coolant a smidgen, when I was doing my fluid checks...which has set off my inner shed alarm, coupled with the leaking oil from the head....my suspicions is head gasket...but, it's running very well in all honesty.

It's booked in for around 3,000 miles over the next couple of months with work if my jobs get signed off (North & South), so it won't be keeping still, I have some coolant in the boot anyway if I need to top up on the road.

Yeah it's filthy again, but tbh it's just not my style keeping a clean car these days, in all honesty winter tyres do chuck up alot more spray I've noticed over the years!

I fear my A4 cab shed is coming to the end of its days, sadly. The bodywork is mint and from the outside it looks a great car, the only defect being the rear screen is coming away from the soft top roof.

However, mechanically I seem to be chasing my tail these days. Power steering makes a loud noise and needs regular topping up so must be leaking somewhere. There is a misfire which has returned - I managed to sort one last year on cylinder 3 with a new ignition coil but the OBD reader is showing this new one on cylinder 1 and swapping the ignition coil yields no result.

The headlight stalk won't now switch on main beam when pushed forward too.

ITV (MOT) is due end of June and I can't see it passing without a lot of money being spent. Better the devil you know??

Brikey Bearman, thats a shocker.

I'll help anyone if i can, but posts like that do indeed make you think twice. wonder what the motive was for just randomly beating someone to death. Horrific.

Let's go 10 years into the future....

Your EV needs a new battery, it'll cost 8k.

Audi don't seem so bad now?

Your welcome.

I paid £380 for cam belt and water pump on my 2015 superb 2.0 tdi so about right yes.
