My mechanic mate is loving these wetbelts, he does at least one a week, keeping him busy! Absolutely POS engine! But very profitable for mechanics.
My Mum has been casually looking for a replacement for her "ever reliable but now made of 95% rust" 2009 Mazda 2 Sport that she's had for about 89 years and rather strangely, decided to go and look at a Ford Grand C-Max with the EcoBoom engine. Looked a nice enough car but at 80,000 miles, I then asked her if it'd had the belt done or evidence it's been meticulously serviced. "No, but the local garage will do it for £500" she said. Aye ok, try nearer £1500 to £2000 for a proper job with the full kit plus oil pump belt etc etc and that's assuming it hasn't already started to fail and clog up the inner workings. I advised she'd be getting carted off to the local loony bin if she bought it. Who's going to be spending £2k doing a belt on an old Ford worth say, £2k... She's since put a deposit down on a 63 plate Captur 0.9 but it was MOT'd by the garage last week, failed on a spring and emissions and as yet hasn't been retested / passed and she's meant to be picking it up in the morning...
Can't but think there are alarm bells starting to ring with this one...
I like it.

I'd be buying another mazda2. Wife got a 69 plate 1.5 petrol automatic one last year. It wasn't shed money.
I like it.
We hired one of these in Cyprus last year with 375k km on the clock. It badly needed a new clutch/DMF but other than that it ran beautifully. I like it.
We are looking at an auto one to replace the Civic - not Shed money as you say but do look very nice, especially inside. Just a shame there aren't too many of them around.
Helped my young cousin buy an older Mazda 2 ( about 16 years old for 1200 quid ) and it has been amazing.
It’s true what they say about Mazda reliability. He has had it 3 years, no issues - does long trips in it.
The trader we bought it off was impressed that he’d bought such a boring car at a young age as most kids wanted something ‘cool’ but he has ragged it around for 4 years now and it’s still amazing for a 20 year old car. Top shedding .

Looking for a shed with cruise control. Smaller cheaper automatic reliable. Hopefully 150 bhp at least. Anything of interest please share.
I would take a look a the civic esepcially the estate 2014 onwards, mk9, 1.6 diesel had close to 80 mpg / £20 tax, seen some go for £2500 high milers but solid cars , I bought one few months ago, will post some details later on georgezippy said:

A fantastic car though, economy was amazing, space with the magic rear seats was fantastic. Designed from the ground up with the DPF in mind, never had a single issue with it in 30k miles.
The headlights are rubbish, you do need to upgrade to osram bulbs and not the most comfortable on long journeys which are my only criticisms.
