I’m generally a “I don’t like equipment” sort of chap.

I have to say, I really like two features which are new to me on the LS430.

Soft closing doors. I had always dismissed there as the ultimate gimmick; going too far for the sake of it. But now I like being able to just vaguely close the doors and have them chiiiunk shut on their own.

Keyless entry. It just works. Getting keys out of your pocket is a bit of a pain once you are used to not having to do so.

In the HATE category is not having proper dials for ventilation. It’s infuriating to have to manage this through the touch screen. Totally distracting and over complex.
Put the air con on auto and just set the temp on the buttons on the dash - it's the best ventilation I've ever had on a car despite being 20 years old - the swinging vents are awesome.

Shame that one is not Macron friendly - I am very tempted by the 4 door version when it finally gets close to thread budget. I think petrol versions are very rare. How refined and borky is the 40 diesel?

Must admit I just leave it on auto. Only thing I ever adjust is the temperature, which is a button. I agree RE complexity, but even on my last few cars which had climate control I've never even touched the fan speeds.

You’ll have to wait for the Mk2 version to come into budget for the ugly to wear off, especially the estate. Yum.

Another purchase inbound for me! Next Saturday though and I'm already itching to pick it up. 2002 Mercedes S Class S320Cdi Long wheel base. A mere 220k miles on it. Will be putting 12 months MOT on it before I collect
That looks like someone perished halfway through buffing it up!

It's being sold as partially borked. Caveat Emptor.

I always want to adjust the fan speed and have done in all my cars! I’m clearly strange.

My wife does this and it drives me insane. In particular she always sets it to the lowest setting, then moans that she's cold and/or the windows are misting over.

The 650i GC has been on my wishlist for a while. For some reason I appear to be tone deaf to the recounted legends of N63 borktential.

You're never going to buff it good, I'd just enjoy shedding around in comfort and not giving a fk. Anyone who doesn't make way for this is asking for trouble.

There's a real charm to its roughness.

Yep hehe I'm not sure how complex it is on the 430 to adjust the fan speed but on the 460 it's a case of pressing the "climate" button beside the screen and then just pressing the screen to adjust the fan speed. Although if you want to adjust either the window/driver/footwell and it's on to adjust one of the others then you'll need to press the screen twice (one to tell it which part of the cabin, and another to change the speed). But as said, I just leave it to auto.

Mine hates air blowing into her face, so rather than adjust centrally, she'll point the vents downwards and shut them off from the on/off wheel too.spin

Aye looks great, the last of the good looking BMWs. But wouldn't touch anything with a BMW V8 even if it was given for free. biglaugh

The 190 and w124 totally nail it in my view by having a slider in the first case and a knob in the second.

I don’t want to use a screen for such basic functionality! So annoying!
