The "S**t Driving Caught On Cam" Thread (Vol 6)

It does surprise me the sheer number of professional drivers that you see on their phones on a daily basis when their livelihoods depend on having a driving licence, Royal mail, bus and refuse truck drivers among them.
Definitely. It's utterly endemic. I'd like to think that when some start to lose their licenses for totting up the message might get through, but it's still hard to evidence/prove when they are messing around in their lap.I was driving a marked Trafpol Volvo in traffic today and there was a woman in the car right behind me repeatedly looking down as if on her phone...unbelievable. Sure enough, when i got out to have a slightly tense word it was in the centre console. Not even a scummer too, just a normal person. They don't give a rats arse!

Nope, because they know the chances of them getting caught are slim. Especially as without photographic evidence it's your word against theirs. Hold the phone down low and whilst it's bloody obvious what they're doing how the f*** do you prove it.(See it all the time around here - had a couple of near-misses on the school run where the person behind me clearly wasn't paying attention in traffic...have now taken to leaving larger-than-usual gaps when I spot such an idiot behind me)
Meanwhile, Warks council have just approved £200,000 more spend for 3 additional speed camera vans (presumably unmarked, a-la-mode), because of course speeding is far more dangerous than driving without paying a shred of attention to what's going on around you...

^^^agreed, although increasingly the camera vans are being multi-purposed to catch people on phones etc (with suitable siting).
One can but hope...but won't that just catch the morons still holding them to their ears, and not those slightly more savvy holding the phone in their lap and texting/surfing?havoc said:

I've heard of us having access to the ones which look into cabins but it's not directly the same department... those are a game changer!People just don't.., think!

What an idiot. I hope he is hammered. Very lucky that nobody was badly hurt.
Too many drivers behave like idiots at car shows.

Plenty of other examples in the full vid!
Phone usage seems to be going up not going down - clearly not enough deterrent. They have new car and latest phone yet cant afford / be bothered to fit a hands free kit. Despite all the TV programs people just don't seem to view it the same as other driving offences such as drink / drug driving. I saw a stat somewhere that using your phone behind the wheel impacts your concentration at the same rate as having several drinks.
Has anyone seen that Cyclingmikey chap in London who goes around catching them all and reporting them? He's caught people like Frank Lampard and Guy Ritchie. But lots of people in works vans etc which is bonkers. Personally I dont even use my phone with bluetooth unless its an emergency. My brother calls me on a 2.5hr drive back from work to home late at night for a chat and I'm like dude get off the damn phone - I could not live with myself if you were distracted talking to me and you never made it home to your 3 boys.

The trouble with CyclingMikey is that he picks low hanging fruit. A brief check of a phone at traffic lights isn’t necessarily the kind of offender we need to get hold of.
Have to disagree with that. Plenty of them are still using their phones whilst moving forward even if in slow moving traffic and probably the same kind of person that wouldn't think twice about grabbing their phone whilst moving faster “as it only takes a few secs”. You can see by the way they leave big gaps in traffic and their car wanders that they are not fully aware of their surroundings.carreauchompeur said:

Who’s at fault in the first clip? The driver cutting in a gap that’s non existent or whoever drives into the back of him?
Don't forget the camera view is a lot different to real life, both in the field of view of the lens and with it being positioned near the mirror. That was close to a collision before the car in front brakes harshlycarreauchompeur said:

As excuse levels go that really is up there with "my dog ate my homework". Middle school calibre. Also, didn't you just know he would talk like that?
Slightly awkward for him that the video not only shows no brake lights at all, but clearly shows he kept his boot in until a fraction of a second before he ran out of talent and stuffed the car into the traffic light.
He'd have been more convincing if he'd said the bottle of water knocked his foot off the throttle pedal before falling and pinning the pedal to the floor.
We've all done stupid things and screwed up! Just be a big boy and own it.
