Genuinely can’t remember the last time I saw one of these on the roads.
Not for me to be honest. Given how car safety has moved on, I can’t see many parents wanting their kids to have this as a first car.
Yeah, my thoughts also, in an awkward position of being old but not really a classic or a more interesting variant. Not for me to be honest. Given how car safety has moved on, I can’t see many parents wanting their kids to have this as a first car.
I am sure someone will potentially buy it for their kids to learn/as a first car but these pre-date proper safety in small cars by some years so I wouldnt buy it for a young driver when you can get something with ABS, Airbags, decent crashworthiness and ESP for similar money or not much more. Some folk arent bothered an I know someone who runs a similar model and has done for years.
I was selling a 1967 Fiat 500 and some mad old bloke rang up and said it would be ideal for his granddaughter to travel to and from Keele University to home, an 80 mile round trip largely on the motorway, he must have wanted rid of her as that is not a safe or viable option, people managed back in the sixties but would now have visions of it ingested in the air intake of a Cayenne Turbo without the driver noticing.
Suppose it is at least quite tidy, just not sure what anyone's reason for buying it would be as plenty of better options, maybe some Festival of the Unexceptional enthusiast ?

Lol.
You have no idea what constitutes as a passable tyre on an mot, you have the same clue about modern classics.
Wow, why don't you go make yourself a nice coffee and enjoy your Friday/weekend instead of searching through post history to gain internet points You have no idea what constitutes as a passable tyre on an mot, you have the same clue about modern classics.

And the Badger even needed an edit - he must have been REALLY triggered by it.
I think we've found the admin of the Mk3 Fiesta Owners Club Facebook page...

This is horrible. As soon as the engine mounts are even 10% worn, the engine feels like it's going to jump through the bonnet, terrible condensation magnets, woefully unsupportive seats (look at the photos, 55k and baggy as f***!), crap gearchange, very poor build quality. I'd take last week's Zaf in a heartbeat over this turd.
And they haven't even pumped up the tyres for the ad.
Crush it.
Horrible horrible piece of st.
Agreed 100% it is an awful car that wants crushing or burning And they haven't even pumped up the tyres for the ad.

I had an early one of these from new, thanks to the at-that-time very favourable Ford discount scheme. Mercury grey, tilt-remove roof, front electric windows - G37VOO rings a bell.
Very comfortable and quite, almost terminal body roll and understeer but a giant leap over the Mk2s. Shat its 5th gear at about 5000 miles (sorted under warranty), then at 12k I smashed it to pieces in an own-fault accident which resulted, due to its newness, in a reshell. Obviously was never really the same after that and flogged it to buy a Mk3 Escort XR3i, possibly the worst decision I've ever made.
Happy days...

CVH stands for compound valve (angle) hemispherical combustion chamber…
I’m a nerd.
I also own and run a CVH in XR3i flavour.
I also am a nerd and was just going to post the same thing. In the day, I found the CVH enines far duperoor and revvier than their predecessors in the earlier Fiestas and Escorts. Very fond memories of hooning a CVH engined XR2i up the west coast of Scotland bound for Mull.I’m a nerd.

I am enjoying my friday Try not to post comments that are silly (‘you could buy these for pennies years ago so this is worth nowt etc’) and I wont be a tw@t. Have a cracking weekend x
My Mum had one of these when I was 18, before i bought my first car. It was a 6 months old ex Jersey hire car.
Same colour, wheels and spec, but 1.3 Ghia not 1.4. Looked good at the time, especially in the sixth form car park but was just unbelievably, embarrassingly slow. You couldn't overtake anything, as at A roads speeds it was terrible (a big problem in Lincolnshire).
I remember going on the A15 dual carriageway towards Hull and going flat out down hill. Clear road, got an indicated 92 after a very long distance, then saw a police car in a lay-by very late and braked...he didn't bat an eyelid, was probably doing 82 in truth!
In the end I would get up early to take my Dad to the station so I could use his 200,000 mile Renault 25 2.2 GTX instead, which talked and went a lot faster than the other kids parents cars (except one lads Dads Saab 9000 Turbo).

Isn't the point of SOTW to highlight something entertaining and cheap that could be used and enjoyed for a reasonable period?
Obviously Shed is restricted to whatever is lurking in the PH classfieds on any given week - but having low mileage and being old doesn't automatically qualify an otherwise average heap.

I had a 1993 1.1 LX in this colour, Tourmaline Green.
It was my second car in around 2001ish and i had it for 2 years and put 50k on it. It used as much oil as it did petrol but i have mainly fond memories of it. Trouble is, it was followed by two ZX TDs which i have far more fond memories of.

I had a 1.3 "Fester" bought in a rush as a stopgap after a slightly older 1.2 Nova sadly died due to a combination of youthful abuse / lack of maintenance...
L550LCX - hateful, wheezy, shaky, smoky, noisy, oil-drinking POS with really terrible seats.
I'm not sure the Nova would be any safer in a shunt, but it was massively better to drive despite the marginally lower displacement engine and the design being about 5 years older than the Ford.
Even if the engine in this is better, for all other reasons it is hopefully staying in the Dagenham Dustbin where it belongs.
