One-of-50 Lexus LFA Nurburgring for sale

Looks a million dollars - costs a little bit more...

As time passes, so the story of the Lexus LFA becomes more remarkable. So much toil and engineering nous went into it, not to mention years and years of altered plans, cancellations, and postponements, that it often seemed the V10 Lexus supercar would never even make production. Then it did. And it was superb. But by that point it was more than £300,000, with the power of a Nissan GT-R; in the numbers obsessed world of supercars, the LFA didn't stack up.

However, as a driving experience, the LFA instantly ranked as one of the greats. Ally that with its rarity (just 500 were made), the fastidious attention to detail plus probably the greatest V10 ever made, and it's no surprise that interest has been growing over recent years. Even before the combustion engine was so threatened and Lexus announced an EV successor, discerning collectors were keeping values strong. Think half a million strong.

Then there's the LFA Nurburgring Package, of which Lexus made just 50. The aim was simple: to create the fastest production car to lap the Nordschleife. To do that, the LFA was subjected to an aerodynamic overhaul, its gearshifts were sped up, lighter wheels were fitted, its suspension stiffened, and stickier Bridgestone tyres deployed. Notably, it was no lighter and just 10hp more powerful than the regular LFA. But, boy, did the Nurburgring work: a 7:14.64 lap was a record in 2011, and still mighty fast today, given the LFA's relative lack of torque (354lb ft), an automated manual gearbox and how far tyre tech has come on.

Unsurprisingly, then, an LFA Nurburgring is highly prized - arguably nothing more desirable has ever been made by a Japanese manufacturer. Furthermore, while some estimates state that 64 were made instead of the original 50, it's still an exceptionally rare car. This Nurburgring Package, for sale at Joe Macari, was originally white (the colour palette also included orange and black) but wrapped in an 'Emerald T' skin in 2019. A really dark green with gold flakes, it's an incredible overhaul. It would be hard to revert the Lexus back to white once presented with this, surely.

Originally sold in Canada, this LFA Nurburgring has been in the UK since 2014 and had two owners in that time. Encouragingly, it's been used and (presumably) enjoyed, too, accruing 12,000 miles in its lifetime. That's 20 years' use for some supercars, not less than a decade. Serviced this summer at Lexus Milton Keynes and currently on Pirelli Sottozero winter tyres (!), the LFA Nurburgring Package is ready and raring to go for a new owner.

Which is the good news. The bad news is that, predictably enough, Nurburgrings have appreciated along with the rest of the LFA range. One yet to breach 1,000 miles sold for $1.6m in the summer, to give it some context. This one, with its mileage and deviation from standard spec, is rather less, at £849,950, yet that still places it firmly in the iconic exotica category. It's limited-run Ferrari, Porsche, and McLaren money. Which is, in fact, exactly where a supercar of the LFA's calibre belongs. And who wants the same million-dollar missile as everyone else, anyway? You're unlikely to see another LFA, leave alone a Nurburgring - and never, ever one like this. As if Japan's greatest supercar couldn't be any better. See you on a tourist day...

The green does look surprisingly good (given I don't usually like green cars) but, and maybe this is just me, adding the wright of the vinyl does seem like the sort of thing that would make a Lexus engineer's skin itch laugh

Fascinating car though. Fair play to Lexus for doing it.

I expected it to be orange. What a colour! Nicest one I've ever seen.

fk me that's nice. I'd want a RHD [did they do RHD Nurburgring's] and the orange though - mind you, it does look good in that green.

If I'm right in saying, does this not have the Topaz skin as opposed to vinyl wrap.

They did. 31 for Japan, and 1 for the UK. 32 total.
The UK car is 9K5 Orange; Of the Japanese ones:
7 are 079 Whitest White
3 are 212 Black

17 are 9K5 Orange

Everyone who’s driven one says they’re great so I take that on face value.

I just can’t get into them myself.

R34 Z tune for me is the zenith of Japanese motoring.

I love these I love Jap cars Skyline, RX7, Supra, GTR, Impreza, EVO, MX-5, Lexus LS, Land Cruiser, Z cars, all of them in their own way really great cars. An the LFA is excellent everyone says so.....but unlike the others so few have driven one and its rarer perhaps than the views on a Chiron or a 918 or La Ferrari etc.

So to me £1m for this would be a huge risk, is it the best drivers car ever, maybe who knows, its not as dramtic looking as a Ferrari or does not have the top speed of a Buggati or the Race heritage of anything made by Porsche. So what is it, seems its a very expensive ornament an investment piece which is quite the opposite of all the other cars I listed at that start.

Still nice car but if I was buying my 7th or 8th supercar (assume if you have £1m to spend you have many millions to spend) then this is a conundrum and I am not sure it has the presence of the others or long term store of wealth.

There’s a million dollars worth of noise in that screaming engine. Just stunning.

Absolutely awesome in every way.

Most of the super/hyper car candidates leave me cold but these are just on another level.

I just cannot even describe the want for one of these.

I'll never be able to own or run one. But I think they are fantastic and if I won the lottery I'd love to have one.

The green looks amazing.

I really like these, although not so much at the prices mentioned. I wasn't aware of the Nurburgring version, I like the story behind it and the racy additions.

I think visually the car looks like it could have been a new Supra at that time, but it's the V10 engine that elevates it to something more special.

An extraordinary machine on so many levels except perhaps its looks. To the average punter it doesn't look anything different from any other Japanese car and would barely merit a second glance. Whether that matters or not is a different conversation and for me it certainly wouldn't. Nevertheless, I can't help but feel it could have done with a bit more visual oomph. Quite what that would be I have no idea!
