I've nearly posted this a couple of times, it being half the price of non broken ones, as I can't believe it would cost that much to fix. I mean I doubt it's an oil change, and wonder if seller is fed up with chasing or not fixing it, there is no info bar it having a full Honda history so perhaps their price was scary mcscary face.

And RR, your (well "a") postcode is in the link, I've taken it out of mine- just copy to the end of the numbers, not the rest of the search string.
I doubt it will be a hard problem to fix, start with an oil/filter flush and change if still having issues it will be box out but lots of specialists around that could sort the problem a lot less than Honda.

You may even be able to get a s/h or recon gearbox
Replace the box is likely the best way - it's a Honda item, so chances are parts and techniques will be odd compared to the standard ZF/Aisin/Mercedes items.

Looking forward to a nosy later.

Well done, I've not got a hard copy yet.
and anyone with a subscription to Apple News+

Or Readly. Similar price to a single normal magazine.

Great article, the Century looks brilliant.
I've just read through also. Well researched and written. 21stCM is name checked too.
I'd always assumed his first name was "21st" hehe
Strangely, his name sounds like someone who would carry a monocle on a chain laugh
Is there any other way?

Thanks, quite interesting. Shame the P38 gained a reputation for being catastrophically unreliable, as they're a great car in principle, and the template for the newer generations in luxury and capability.

Edited my typo, yeah the P38 is a great template would it be wrong to say it probably helped set the foundation for LR's success it's currently enjoying in the luxury market?

That channel I enjoy watching his videos when I can, probably just lifted from wikipedia but still well put together.

A day on jacks and the job is jobbed. I even found the gearbox for you two hehe

When you consider that 406 to be the same money as 740i. The 406 is way overpriced. It should be at shed money imho and I liked being a passenger in 406 and I considered one, but I could not say no to a sharp nosed Galant.

I've only just got around to pointing my nose at the Century article this morning and - as already confirmed - it's a very interesting read. Recommended.

Thanks, I only had two days to detail it, as it's my daily and it was dirty from commuting. Cleaned it up on a Weds/Thurs, shoot was on a Fri.

Using a £50 Draper DA and an assortment of Chemical Guys pads.

I keep the interior mega clean anyway so that didn't need much effort.

Saw this thread pop up on What's New, and thought there are a few people on here with Merc ML, GL and R-classes who may be impacted by this important recall:

jfdi said:
I received a recall notice for my Mercedes GL yesterday for a potential issue with corrosion to the brake booster (servo) housing which could cause total brake failure. The recall notice is titled (STOP DRIVE): Brake booster and goes on the state "your car should not be driven until the Safety Recall has been completed"
The recall I believe affects all Mercedes GLs MLs and R classes from 2006 to about 2016, so a lot of cars. To be fair to Mercedes I they appear to have handled it very well based on the fact after a phone call to the main dealers, I've a technician booked to visit the car at home tomorrow to check it.
I get the reasoning for the don't drive in the recall, in effect absolving Mercedes of any fault should the worst happen. However what would/could happen to the driver should they choose to ignore this advice and the worse does happen. Is there any case law or precedent set?

My stopgap XJ is back on the market after my new car arrived and ive found a bit of time to prep it for sale, really not looking forward to selling it as it seems to be getting more and more of a chore to sell older cars these days.

Put too much money into it sorting out some mechanical niggles for what is a far from perfect car. I'll be selling a better car than I inherited though so someone should get a decent deal.

…Ironically, the E38 was slated for being boring and conservative when it was first released.
Those words have certainly come back to haunt us.
hehe

E38s are becoming pretty rare now unfortunately. I liked my 728i, but, for me, the E65 was the better car in just about every way, save for the running costs!!!!
And looks.

Hey Swiveleye, did you intentionally put a link in for masonry paint and ‘Barge Gloss’ when you were talking about that rusty old Merc?

Yes unfortunately, although a genuine 50+mpg on the A1/M18/M1 commute was a welcome bonus.
