One happy thing I saw was an enormous queue of tesla and the like waiting for a sip of electricity. With an ICE car you just roll in and roll out like normal. I don't think the threat to 'our type' of car will be the sudden proliferation and overnight excellence of EV. It will be the demonisation of their engines and exhausts, despite there being no viable alternative...yet.

I like this thread and the people herein.

Thanks.

Anecdotally, I saw quite a few Scandinavian registered Teslas and other EVs as far south as Dubrovnik and Montenegro this summer. That demonstrates a certain amount of viability.
I met some Norwegian bikers in Croatia and asked them how long the journey had taken, they’d shipped the bikes (by train I think) and flown down. They did look a bit embarrassed to be asked though!

I had one Swedish reg Tesla Model Y following me through Slovenia using their radar cruise. I don't think people are shipping them south, I saw plenty on the motorways between Germany and the Adriatic. A Tesla Model S would be, in my humble opinion, a brilliant way to cross the continent. A Model S is a proper barge, I wish I could find one in thread budget...

Waay back in 2015 we saw several Dutch and Scandi registered Model S's in Istria. It struck me even then that with the SC network they were probably a brilliant continental GT.

Yessir. Taken this very minute just for you. Unclean. Brake dust, road grime, midges and all.

Purely on a educational and erstwhile attempt to lift the lid on these fine barges, if you ever chose to do a valuation, I would be interested in knowing what said valuation would be.

Blaaaady excellent clap

This is what it's all about. One up, two up or four up. It doesn't matter; nothing beats a big barge for obliterating continents.

About 3 years ago I couldn't believe how common the Model S was in Norway they were like Ford Fiesta level of common. No surprise a mate went to Oslo last month and said they were everywhere. I suppose having one of the best EV charging networks and most generous green subsidy probably helps.

I live about a mile from a Tesla dealership up t'north and there are at least 30 parked along the main road towards it. You wouldn't see 30 Ford Fiestas on the same stretch.

The Norwegian government heavily incentivised their people to move to EVs, and at the time I think Tesla was the only viable option.

EV's are very popular indeed due to tax breaks, my wife works with a lot of Norwegians, her boss previously has an Audi A6 (not an S6) that cost almost £100k due to import taxes. He's now got an E-tron that was quite a bit cheaper due to the tax breaks for green cars.
But it's apparently all stopping, the take up of EV's has been so high that they're struggling without the usual road tax equivalent as EV's don't pay it.

In 2016 I rode up to the Nordkapp on my motorbike, I remember noticing a Tesla in Oslo as they were still quite rare here, then it went past again, then it went past but had changed colour!

Worth doing. They used tax to provoke the change, and underpinned it with investment in the infrastructure.

If in a few years they make EV motoring approximately as expensive as ICE motoring, then now they have a nation of EV converts and almost nobody is going to want to change back. Job jobbed.

Alternatively, of course, it could just be an ask about what they're worth.

Meanwhile on the Fast Estate thread, there is a chap 130% hawking his 130% overpriced S6 Avant, zero eyes batted, and and there has been a long attempt to sell a CLS estate, again, silence.

I was wondering if it was time for a comeback, seeing as thread is now somewhat lonely, alas it seems I'll just delete my account, and bid you all farewell.

A Norwegian once described to as the Tesla being the cheapest expensive car you can buy. It has (or had then) zero purchase tax, but ICE cars are heavily taxed, so they end up being much cheaper than what we see as rival cars at similar price points over here.

Press the 'Report' link and the moderation team will take a look at it. smile

They rely on users reporting inappropriate posts - they can't read all of the threads.
