Out of interest what time did your original confirmation email come through?
I've seen a 10:06 order with a 6th July "final destination" date and a 10:18 order with 13th September date.

Yes I got that email yesterday. About 3 weeks after I got an email from them saying they would "phone in the coming days".

I would really like an indication when I can expect the car because I need to book in my other car for some work.

When I paid the order reservation fee the lead time for the car was 12-14 weeks. It's not looking like 16 weeks before I hear from them.

It's not been very well handled by Toyota.

Being one of the last orders I won't be surprised If mine is Winter 2023. Sad times.

What’s the average lead time on any new car these days? I thought most were 6-12 months.

Appreciate frustrations on lack of commas… but ordering a new car in the current climate was alway going to be a leap of faith so when Toyota told me I will be looking at an Aug delivery I thought it was alway going to be ambitious… and I took it with a pinch of salt… they didn’t say which year ;-)

The way I look at it … Is that I locked the car in at a fair price and the way inflation is running if it falls into 2023 the retail price could be 10% more and I have confirmation it’s locked in price now can other manufactures guarantee this?

I must admit if it was going to be my main /daily / and looking to p/x etc…car I would be a bit anxious but i’m sure will be worth it

I ordered mine as a stop gap whilst I wait for an Emira at some point next year. I thought that as it was a limited run of cars and knowing how Toyota tend to have stock of parts rather than a JIT production line that I might see the car at the end of the summer.

So it's very much a first world problem for me, but it's frustrating and the excitement has really been dampened.

Hardly surprising to be fair, I'd feel the same, even if it wasn't a stopgap. If I wanted this sort of vehicle I think I'd be after an early gt86, and fix the torque dip, and liberate the Scooby noise and it would probably be at least as much fun for half the price

I think we just have to accept that Toyota aren't set up for online ordering & we are the guinea pigs, I got the generic email saying they would be in touch in the next 12 weeks, when I ordered the car I thought I would have been driving around in it by then as it is I will maybe have had a phone call!
As long as I get a car then I guess I will just have to wait patiently

The also did some Aygo X online only too so while they were coming to be collected by owners, so the team was dealing with that, the same team were also phoning all of us who managed to get an order in to confirm dates and answer any queries.

I got my confirmation email for a white, manual GR86 12 minutes after ordering started. I got an email on 26/4 to say the current delivery estimate was September 2022. Yesterday I got a call from Toyota online about some ID request stuff and to give me the rather vague delivery date of ‘next year’. I don’t think there is a link between what time the order was placed and when delivery is expected. I asked him if test drives in June was still the plan and was told no dates had been decided and people with orders would likely be invited for a test drive when the time comes. I also got an email yesterday saying ‘We hope you’re as excited as we are about your new Toyota’. Not as much as I was…..

I’m thinking I’ll have to sort out another car in the meantime as I’ve had no hint of when mine will arrive.

It is what it is but it’d be nice to get an up front worst case scenario from them at least.

That is piss poor

People on GRZoo being told 2023 now, and their order emails came in 20 mins before mine did

I am not giving my money to a company that behaves and communicated like they have been doing, plenty of people in line to take my order I'm sure so no big deal for Toyota. Fun as this GR86 might end up being I'm not going to wait a year for a Toyota.

First time ordering a car online and not something Ill do ever again where I have a choice.

To add balance, mine is built and in transport to the UK. Communication was good.

I did have a 992 on order - but dealer kept my money for months and couldnt give any estimate of when they'd get a build slot, Id spoken to Land Rover about a defender 90 and they said roughly 18-24 months but couldnt confirm. A transporter Kombi is 24m + a Yaris GR isnt available to order..

We are living in a pretty messed up world at the moment. All cars have lead times, with the possible exception of a few that are overpriced and / or nobody wants to buy.

You might be shooting yourself in the foot if you cancel now, if there are only 400 then it might be worth sitting tight.

I don’t understand why anyone would want to cancel. This is a car not to be missed for the enthusiast. No matter how long the wait. At least Toyota have emailed, I know of a few more premium marques who can’t be arsed to do that, even when you’ve placed an order and paid a far more substantial deposit.

Yeah I don’t see the point in cancelling tbh, it’s going to be a very desirable car that has been brought here in low numbers. You’d literally be able to take delivery and make yourself a 20% profit if you felt that way inclined.

Just bear in mind there won’t be anything else like it at 30k going forward so what could you replace it with? It’s going to be a keeper for me if it’s anything like the reviews suggest.

I'd never cancel. It's all milk floats after this and I'm not missing out on what will be the last of the breed. Gone quite a few years putting off having nice cars to get a house, get more stable. It will feel great once it arrives. Still no exact date but looking like late September which is fine.

If some cancel their order and throw their dummy out because they are impatient and out of touch with reality then let them. There are plenty of people out there who would snap their arm off to own one.
