Great review. That seems to confirm the entire 2 year allocation has indeed gone.
Anyone considering cancelling their car must be crackers.
Why? So we could make £5k by then selling what is a Toyota with an agricultural Subaru engine to some mug willing to pay over asking?Anyone considering cancelling their car must be crackers.
Hardly worth the bother is it.
Some poor fkers will have to wait until 2024 for their orders. I've said this on GRZoo but the biggest gripe I have is having two cars on order. One I want to cancel, but only if this GR is going to turn up within the next year. I haven't a clue what's going on. All I want to know is roughly when I might be able to expect the thing.

Confusing post, what two cars do you have on order? Why are you buying one if you don’t like Subaru flat 4 engines?Hardly worth the bother is it.

Facetious post?Obviously, it'll be a fun car. But at the end of the day its a Toyota. Never said I didn't like them, they are what they are. Massively over-hyped car, Toyota have spun a dreidel around a group of 'petrol heads' to get them all worked up, people have been baited hook line and sinker and taken in by their bullst marketing campaign.
I'd ordered a Fiesta ST earlier in the year and totally forgot about the GR86, randomly saw it was going on sale a few days before and ordered one on a whim with the estimated delivery date being about right for my needs. I'm annoyed because there's no delivery date in sight for many a month on. No estimation. Nothing. Just speculation on some forums and delivery dates for orders 20 minutes before mine now bleeding into 2023 already.
I'd selected a GR86 about a year back (its relatively cheap and should be an entertaining drive which is what I am after) but with no release date on the horizon looked else where. The Fiesta was replacing another Fiesta, just a stter to carry bikes with.

Sounds like you're getting flustered and upset with your own predicament of having two cars on order, one being the GR that doesn't have a delivery date, and hence your unsubstantiated vitriol.Obviously, it'll be a fun car. The issue I have with mine is that it might turn up at the same time as the Emira (I originally thought it was a 12 week lead time). I planned to run it until the Emira showed and then sell it.
At this rate, I might have to choose between the cars and sell the place in a queue / cancel one.
As the sales are direct with Toyota GB you will be able to hand your slot back or take delivery and sell. I get the impression Toyota GB weren’t happy with dealers moving on slots to new customers vs those on a waiting list so assume to avoid that went with online only for this. Yes, it's just not knowing the timing of any of it, or when I have to pay deposits (Lotus will be looking for a refundable deposit before the car arrives). So it's just very up in the air at the moment. What I don't understand is why it's taking so long to contact customers by phone. Assume 400 cars sold. Assume 30 mins call to customer. (Why it would take that long is a mystery but let's assume just for the sake of argument.)
400 customers. Half an hour per call. So 200 hours to call everyone. One person making ALL the calls and working a 37.5 hour week could contact everyone in just over 5 weeks. They're giving themselves 3x that long.
Does Toyota UK not have any staff? Why would they insist on online ordering only with no preparation to provide a service to the customers who use it?
I've never before bought anything costing thousands of pounds and been expected to wait 4 months just to learn the lead time!

This is what's really annoying me. My preferred dealer has no idea what's going on, my two emails to Toyota online have been ignored. 400 customers. Half an hour per call. I've been told nothing other than wait for 12 weeks, 4 weeks after handing over £1000

Went past a transporter of these and gr Yaris yesterday, all still with their delivery plastics on them... This was in the west midlands.
The 86s are probably the dealer demo cars, I was told they'd have them in June so it stacks up.MrsMiggins said:

Apparently there are only 2 people doing the calls I believe and they are also doing the calls for all online orders which include other models, not just the 86.400 customers. Half an hour per call. Why does a car with a sold out allocation need dealer demo cars?
I wondered that too but I'm guessing that everything was planned months ahead and they can't change things now hence all the journos jolly to Spain for the tests. They probably planned worst case scenario of luke warm reception by the buying public and then we went and screwed up all their planning in 90 minutes.MrsMiggins said:

I think they are dragging out the calls because there's nothing positive to say, I think if you haven't had the call yet you won't see your car until 2023 or even 2024 & they just don't want to tell customers bad news.400 customers. Certainly not very reassuring to have paid out £1000 pounds & have had nothing but generic emails in 4 weeks to then be told to wait another 12 weeks for a call, feeling a bit like I've been conned at the moment

But there's no reason for the complete absence of substantive communication. They.must have at least a vague idea when the car for each order will be made. Surely the creators of "The Toyota Production System" have at least a clue what they're doing?
If I got a call that said sorry we don't have a build date yet but it'll probably be late 2023 I wouldn't be happy but at least I'd know.
Holding off giving out bad news doesn't make it an easier pill to swallow, it just makes it seem like they don't give a st about their customers.

Pretty much any new car which is popular is having similar issues with the.ordering and delivery process. This is not unique to Toyota.
I understand the delay, I don't understand the lack of communication. Even if they only have bad news to deliver, it will help many of us. They had a lot of goodwill at the start, but with no communication at all they are throwing that goodwill away in the eyes of many.
